I think it could still get made. I mean Django Unchained was essentially the serious/action version of BZ.

Both of those movies intentionally satirized racism, sexism, etc and were aware of it. On the other hand, a movie that was just unapologetically offensive probably couldnt get made. Im thinking of some of the James Bond movies (sexism), or movies that have really effeminate characters just for the purpose of ridiculing gay people, or movies that show africans as savages, etc.

Hell, I was watching Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy's late 70s/80s stand up movies and I don't think they could get away with some of the stuff they said back then.

I disagree that anything from the mainstream past would be off limits today. As long as its entertainment, especially satire or comedy... just about anything still goes. There are very few limits, if any. Example given - just watch Tosh.O on regular basic cable T.V.

Its a good thing when we can laugh about it together.

The censors will allow almost anything to be released these days.

The challenge is getting the studios to fund it and the people involved to deal with the PR flak.

But even then, all you have to do is create enough buzz around it to get it crowdfunded, and then release it on Netflix or Crackle.

That works fine for a standup routine.  But it won't get anything made that costs money to shoot.

On a serious fiction shoot with pro equipment & actors you can hardly roll a camera for less than several million.

I dunno man...there's been a few movies that have hit 7 figures through crowd funding. I read somewhere that thats how super troopers 2 is getting made.
