Do you guys always put a new driveshaft and gear in a rebuild or just reuse the old one?

I allways use a new OP drive in a fresh rebuild. I like the hardened tip drives with the pinned gear.  :2thumbs:

If you are spending all that money to rebuild an engine, why consider skimping on the last few details of assembly?  :Twocents:

Thanks Ron, and I actually asked myself the same question a couple of hours after posting it.  I think I had hit that "geez another 100 bucks?" point but there is only one right answer.

Last time I purchased one was in 2003-2004 and it was approx. $50 going off memory ?  :scratchchin:

They've gone up a bit and of course the exchange rate really hurts us Canucks  :eek2:

Yep,
NEW Cam gets a NEW gear for me.

Gears run-in and establish a "wear pattern" in mesh.... NOT saying a new Cam probably won't run fine with an old gear ? Lots of them did back in the day.
but,
"why" not replace it on a New Cam is the question in my mind these nowadays ? Just seems prudent given the lack of pressure additives in today's Oils... No Zinc, NO Phos, No molybdenum, etc., etc., just loaded up with parafins.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

I like the hardened tip drives with the pinned gear.

The radiused tip (on right below) is more important than hardening...my Rockwell machine shows the same hardness for both the stock and HP version.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
