A cool benefit of owning a Charger that I didn't originally expect

I get attention all the time as well in my 3rd gen. A couple of weeks ago the wife and I stopped at a Burger King in  town. I parked at the front of the parking lot because no cars were close and figured no one wanted to park that far from the door. We walk in and order, then the wife says go sit down I will wait and bring the food to the table, so I did. She comes back with the food and tells me this guy in line saw us get out of the Charger and compliments it and asks her a few questions about it. So we sit down to eat, Another guy comes and stops at my table asking about the Charger. After talking to him a few moments I find out he was a school teacher of one of my daughters several years ago. So we start eating again, then my wife looks out the window towards the Charger. She says look out there, a guy literally stopped his car in the driveway in back of mine and does two complete walk arounds of my car. Then he looks back toward the restaurant and gives a thumbs up hoping the driver is watching I guess. That one really made us laugh! My 18 year old son likes to go for a ride with me in the Charger, he says " dad everyone always looks at us and gives us thumbs up"

A big red '69 always seems to draw attention, but I was amazed at all the looks we got when I drove my daughter to the church on her wedding day in her dress. Then when we get to the church, at a stop sign near the parking lot, she says "Daddy light em up." Everybody in the parking is looking at us. Nobody was saying who is that asshole. They all knew.

I don't mind the occasional guy walking over while I'm pumping gas, and when they're nice (which is usually the case) I am more than happy to chat with them and answer questions.  But I really don't go looking for it, I don't pay attention to people on sidewalks giving me the thumbs up or not as I'm trying to keep an eye on the schmucks looking at their phones while driving, and I avoid shows and cruises at all cost.   

A while back I had several people yell something at me that should be considered compliments, but there's something about toothless, cruddy pickup owners hanging out the side window, swerving to get my attention that doesn't sit well with me.  This was all in the same week and at that time I wish I had a 30s or 40s car instead.  I felt really sad when that thought came over me because I love my old Charger.

I'm lucky to live where I do though, where most people couldn't care less about my car.  That works for me.

OK, today took the cake.  I was driving to the annual charger get together here in Spokane.  I noticed a late sixtys VW bug coming up in the rear view mirror.  It was a convertible with two lovely looking young ladies in it.  As they pulled up to the side of me I got the usual thumbs up.  But then they proceeded to emulate oral sex by hand and mouth movements.  Good God, I'm 67 years old.  Discusting to me anyway.........

I always enjoy the crazy people too, the ones who freak out and tell you how awesome the car is. It's all about the car. They wish they could talk to the Charger but since I'm sitting in it I'm the next best thing. They have to say something to somebody or their head will explode.

I too miss quite a few of the thumbs up passing by. My wife is constantly telling me people are oogaling or taking pictures, but I've got 100% of my attention on the road and the other careless people around me.

please don't take this as me having a go at anyone ,cause I'm not       but ..............

 here in Australia that would be what a disrespectful youngster would do to silently call someone a "c**k sucker" , like the same hand movement to the forehead is d**k head   or the up and down fist  motion is calling someone a wan*er .

  maybe we have more disrespectful youngsters over here(might be  Australians  are more disrespectful in general   )       but the riceburner /unemployed crowd just don't seem to "get" our "old cars"  or the money we spend on them

At my age I  don't keep up on the youthful positive or negative symbols.  Judging from their smiles and also driving a classic, I assumed that their  jestures were intended to portray their "love" of the old Charger.  Those jestures are just not what someone of my generation is used to seeing......
