Hi guys!

As the title says i need a short shaft clutch fan for a 26" rad!I'm about to buy a '68 4 speed charger but the seller has trouble finding it and that is holding up our deal!
If anyone has any info on one please let me know or a solution! It's just spins free and won't get tight!

Thanks!

Peter

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread so mods move it if you feel like it i just wanted more people to read it!

I used the Hayden part #2765 which is for a '90 Jag XJ6...it's 2 3/4" tall. I think a few guys on this site has used the same clutch.

cavemanno1

Thanks, the seller told me that some guys using that but complain they do not last long or not heavy duty!

It's basically a big block a/c rad so i would think it should be pretty easy to get hold of but it's not!Everyone wants and has big block cars so how come no one makes these clutch fans?

It's the shortest one I have ever seen. They are as heavy duty as the Mopars.  :Twocents:

a none thermostatic fan clutch will not be tight , thermo type gets tighter when it gets hot. the 2765 works great.

I have a stock clutch fan from a BB. 2-3/4" depth and it has the coil spring in front.

Dino

I've been running the 2765 for years with no issues.

Good luck, hopefully the seller comes thru for you.

Here are pics of my clutch fan. Still has the Penstar stamping in red and also some faint numbers.

Thanks Vegascharger!

I'm sure he will,he is a great guy!

What fan you guys use plastic or metal?Would 2765 work with metal fan as well?

Dino

Metal, the stock fan will bolt right on.  I have some aftermarket fan that looks stock.

My guy was told that it's not hd enough for the metal fan but he said he doesn't know it just was told! But if it's working for you without any issue then i will ask him to get it so we can move on!

All original fans were metal.

He is referring to the Jag fan clutch, the Jag used a plastic fan.

Got to http://www.tonysparts.com/newproductsB.htm & scroll down to see if that is the type you need?

The clutch in the link above is correct. Tony's Parts is now reproducing them.

The clutch with the spring in front was used on A/C cars, non-A/C cars had the flat front. The part# was 2806070. Originals are VERY hard to find. The Hayden clutch was a substitute due to the short shaft, however from what I understand the bolt pattern is not correct so washers are a necessity when installing it.

Tony's offers two types, the cheaper one has a slightly different shaped face. The more expensive one has the correct face. Both are dimensionally correct.

Forgot to say that the car is a 383 HP non A/C car with,ps,manual brakes if that matters!
So would the A/C clutch fan work on a non A/C car?

cdr

 i thought a 68 383 came with a direct drive fan ?

It's a '69 engine in it,if it makes any difference but definitely needs a short style clutch fan!

bill440rt

Sorry, I did not realize your car was a 383. Your initial post just said big block, 4-speed.

383 cars with the max cooling option did get a clutch fan.
Standard cooling cars had a fixed fan. I have one restored, you would just need the appropriate spacer. It is for sale here:
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,119131.0.html

Otherwise a clutch fan would still work, like you said you just need one the correct length.
The one from Tony's is a correct reproduction, it just doesn't have the part#/date code ink stampings on it.
