We have a York delux diamond 80 furnace with a totaline t-stat. It's central w/air.The t-stat is digital or should I say was digital. There is nothing on the "screen". Pulled it out ,blew in it ,flipped the breaker.....still nothing. I have a meter to test (to make sure it has power) but which wires? I have like 6. Guessing red and bare?? also have yellow, white, green ,orange. Going to get close to freezing this weekend. Thanks

It looks as if some of the Totaline t-stats are battery operated so replace the batteries first as stated earlier. It will show a Lb when you are getting a low battery. You may have missed seeing it which is why the screen is blank now. Make sure to replace batteries every 12 months.

Without knowing the exact model of the t-stat, in looking online the colors fall out as: Red - Power, Yellow - A/C, White - Heat, Green - Fan, Orange - heat pump cool, Blue - heat pump heat. I wonder if the wire that you say is bare is actually a blue wire stripped back to far. Never heard of bare wire in thermostat wire. To check to see if power is reaching the t-stat you could check between R&Y, R&W or R&G which should show 24V.

Many use the battery to hold program memory and time in a power outage and pick up power from the 24VAC transformer in the furnace.

I don't see any batteries. Unless they are like a watch or something. They would have to be between the "board" and the face though. I will check for power tonight. Transformer maybe? Thanks for all the quick replies.

I have access to a 24 volt power source , can I hook it up to the display part to test? Which wire to where? Thanks

Before hooking up a power source to the thermostat I would check to see if you have voltage from the furnace to the thermostat. Look at my above post to see what colors to check between. If you have no voltage from the furnace and no batteries in the thermostat (batteries would either be installed from an access on the front or from the rear once you have removed it from the wall bracket.

What model Totaline thermostat do you have? That would help identify the power source to check out. If you have no power from the furnace, just in checking around, the transformer for power looks to be located on the control board. You should also check the control board as there may be a fuse on it for power that is blown.

So, first check to see if there is power from the furnace to the thermostat. Second, check to see if there is a fuse on the control board that is blown. Third, if you have no power to the thermostat from the furnace and there is no fuse that is blown it may be that you would have to replace the control board.

If there is no power and no blown fuse, and you still want to see if the thermostat comes on, then you could hook the 24V power supply you have to the wiring at the furnace. Disconnect the wiring first from the furnace and then jump the power supply to the wiring to the thermostat.

If you do have power to the thermostat and it has no batteries and it still does not work, then you would probably be looking at a new thermostat.

It's looking like a no power situation. Going to look at it in a few minutes. Thanks

I strongly recommend getting a Nest thermostat, I've had mine about two years now and love it, and the wife loves the simplicity of the unit, as well as the ability to use a phone app to control the thermostat in the house. Not all thermostats have batteries as a backup, they should to maintain the clock etc, but my nest is wired direct to the furnace and household wiring.

Not the thermostat ,not the fuse ,not the door switch....I'll have to call a guy in the am. On mine there's a kinda big white box that the transformer bolts too and it has a light (smaller ,redish) it's not lit either. It looks like the wires for the thermostat start. There's a "peephole" through the door where you should be able to see that light. Thanks to all for the help!
