Cool video, interesting music choice.  I didn't know wing cars were used on road courses also...

I just found this video while checking out the archives.  I grew up near the raceway at Riverside and as kids we used to crawl through a drian pipe under the freeway and come out at grandstand B.  From 72' to the late 70s we got to.see a lot of races for free.  Old film like this brings back a lot of memories for me.

My Dad was a pilot at March AFB and took this photo of the raceway April of 72.  The super 8 movies would have been shot from the infield at the North end that is opposite of grandstand B.

Nice to see Monroe Schellinger up on a wing!   :2thumbs:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

wingcar builder

The most elusive Bird of all is the Kevin Terris Bird built and owned by Gary Sigman. I've had feelers out from coast to coast with every photographer from back then and nobody has any photos of this car.Gary died few years backand his wife said she don't believe she has any either. This is from Falstaff 400, if anyone has any other than the Machado pics let me know please. Thanks,

That end footage is 1975 at Huntsville Alabama.   The day before the Talladega 500.

C5X DAYTONA

All the footage at Riverside was taken by dad.    The turn 6 footage was taken while he stood on the Daytona wing on his 68 Charger R/T.  That is why he is above most everyone.    I don't know who took the film at the end, but it was his super 8 camera.   At the Jan 71 race he has a quick shot of a F6 Hemi Daytona on super 8mm.   That particular Daytona was turned into Queen Daytona right after that race.
Caution.... Low flying aircraft.

Thank you for that tidbit of information.  There has to be other film out there somewhere besides what your Dad captured, because Super 8 film cameras were pretty common at that time.  Do you know if there were any restrictions for filming at the races?

There sure is.  Would be neat to see more of it.    There were no restrictions that I know of.
