Getting close to buying 15 inch rims,i want to keep them in the 60s era nothing new,was looking at the cragers and the magnum 500 any other ideas or links? tia

myk

The answer is simple: Torq Thrust wheels.  They were the perfect choice then, they are the perfect choice now...

charge69

Well, any of the American Racing Torque Thrust or Cragar styles look great for the "Day Two" look on these cars.  Just depends on your preference and pocketbook!
With my Charger, the Cragar SS wheel was my choice but, that is just me.

myk

Day two.  I like that phrase...

daveco

500's
Cragar
TorqThrust

Kinda hard to go wrong with any of them. Getting the "just right" combination of tire/wheel size and wheel offset is just as important as the wheel style.

charge69

To MYK:  "Day Two" is not my phrase.  I heard it years ago referring to muscle car looks with aftermarket rims and liked it also.

Ghoste

Big fan of the Cragar SS myself.  :yesnod:

charge69

Me too, Ghoste!  A better picture of mine.

charge69

And ....... one more "enhanced" picture of my Charger that I think looks nice that shows off the Cragars!

JR

I vote for halibrand knock off style wheels or American racing "Salt Flat" wheels.

I would have gone with either of those on my own car (in 17 though), but budget dictated I go with simple 5 spokes. One day, I'll switch to one of these.

I like them, but the Magnum look is just everywhere nowadays.  I have them myself but I need a change.

tiki

I want to love them not like them,so many decisions putting all your personal touches on your mopar...I love the look here my charger is identical...  http://www.transamflorida.com/1969charger1109.htm

What backspace was stock for the 69 charger Im thinking right around 2 inches...I was thinking a 15 inch rim & 7 wide on rear and 6 wide on the front i don't want a drag car(even though its got just over 600 hp) on the streets getting pulled over every other day lol I think that size would give me a decent profile...

15x8 on the back
15x6 or 15x7 on the front

offset is 4.25 i believe

I suggest magnum 500s

they look the best

If you like bigger rims, check out year ones 17" version of the magnum 500........They are sweet.

I know when i do rims it will be 15 inch magnum 500s from coker tire or similar. Match them with BFG or Mickey Thompson tires

sounds like you answered your own question.  Ansens, centerlines, what everyone else said. I like chrome reverse with baby moons.

What's the reason that most people use different front end rear wheel sizes?Like 15x6 or 7 in the front and 15x8 or 10 in the back! Why don't they just get them all the same like Just6t9 CHGR did?Is there a reason?
Chris, isn't that 295x50x15 tire bulge out a bit?Someone said they bulge out and they would have gone to 15x10 with 295x50x15 tires!

Thanks,

Peter

255/60/15 on the front. 295/50/15 on the rear. The modern wheel weights being aluminum are larger than lead, so I have a problem with the ones on the front hitting the upper control arms. Otherwise, I'd have a little more rake to it. Also, I think the rear springs might be sagging a tad. So, use Lead if you can find them or stick on weights.

I've ran the 275 combo you're thinking of and it's good too.  :2thumbs:

1. magnums
2. cragers
3. road wheels.  (not repop'ed in 15 or not well anyway)

I've got magnums 15x8 rear, 15x6 front -  off the  shelf
The 15x6 gives it a great "period look".  They ride and drive great, but then again, I don't own any driving gloves.

Here's what everyone has that wants no problems at stock ride height:

Front- magnum (or ?) 500 15x7 4" BS
235x60x15 tires

Rear-Magnum 500 15x8 4.25" BS
275X60X15 tires

Looks 60s but wide and agressive. Only issue is the 275 60 is 28" tall not 26" like original tire. So  you loose a little "grunt" on the low end.

I have had this combo for 15 years.

I like the magnums and cragers, my car came with American racing wheels that resemble cragers.

tiki

Thanks triple green do you think 235/70/15 will rub on the front, just a little more sidewall?I have them brand new as a left over project that i changed my mind, could save me a few bucks...

My Cragars are the same size as Triple_Green uses on his Magnums. I, also, use a 275X60X15 on the rear but use a B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A on the front that is 225x70x15 to get the same approx. height (27.79") for both front and rear.

The rear tires certainly are not the widest you can mount but these sizes are pain-free with no clearance issues.

tiki

Thanks for the response your ride is beautiful,Im going w/275/60/15 rear and 235/70/15 in the front because i had 2 front tires (brand new)left over from another project that i changed my mind...If I have clearance problems the 2 front tires will go back on the future pile lol

tiki

charge69 do you have 7 inch wide on the back and 6 inch wide on the front?

triple_green

the 235 70 15 is almost 2" taller than the 235 60 15. I would have to measure.

Also 0.6" narrower tread width.

My guess is that it would be ok.

triple green post me a snap shot of your ride...

charge69

Yep,  my rims are 7" on the front and 8" on the rear.  Standard back spacing (somewhere around 4"). No problems at all with the rims or tires clearing the suspension.  You should have no problems either with your choice.

tiki

I cant wait Friday delivery of rims (Magnum 500) Tuesday  275/60/15 Goodrich t/a tires - I just cleaned the raised white letter tires on the other 2.Tomorrow I get the front windshield clips, install them and get the glass guy to install the glass, got the gasket for the windshield today, almost ready to hear the engine through the exhaust for the first time,oh yea put the doors on that would help... :drool5:

I just measured on my own car. The extra 2" of height should be fine. There is lots of room inside the upper fender well. If your ride height is the same as mine, the tire will come close to the bottom of the wheel opening visually.

That black car you posted the picture of may be the best looking second gen I've ever seen!

I have 235/70/15's front and 275/60/15's rear. Measuring from lowest point on rim to top of wheel well 21" front and 21.5" rear.  No clearance issues.

I'm running the chrome magnum's on my car. Got 15 x 8's all the way around with BFG 275 60 15's on the rear and 225 70 15's on the front. I started out with 245 60 15's on the front but it seemed like the car wanted to follow every other groove in the road!! I don't really know why but it didn't drive good at all. I had 225 70 15's on it all the way around when I had it dressed up in the general uniform with the vector's on it and it drove fine that way too so after the 245 60's wanted to wander I just went back to the 225 70's. I did like the look of the 245's on the front but look's ain't everything when it doesn't drive good!!!

I got the front done...

Just wondering why nobody else runs 275 wide tires on the front? I have 275/60 15's on my 68 front and back on 8" wide mopar cop wheels (not sure of backspacing). No rubbing at all except when parking and the wheel is turned far as it will go it rubs a little. I had 235's before and these are a big improvement in handling.
