Hey guys, I am going to be working on rebuilding my door hinges. I know I still have a lot of metal work to do before the doors go on but with the wife back to work (shift work nurse) sometimes I need stuff I can do in my basement so I'm near the little guy when he's sleeping. I am wondering how I should go about it. I press the old pins out, sand blast then reassemble and prime and paint with the car? Or should I press, blast then paint and reassemble? Also what are opinions on hinge color? Black or body color?
Thanks!
Pat

Update: I took the first one apart tonight and the kits I got do not fit. Where are most getting their kits? I am in canada so napa or carquest or something would be best and easiest.

I did mine with the kit from Resto Rick.    Cheaper than new hinges.   Pretty easy.   Yes,  I bought the reamer also.

Mopar nut, it says those are for 73-74 chargers, the hinge with the spring looks differnt then the ones on my 69? Maybe I am wrong on this? It's all new to me (b bodies that is not cars)

Oh man, I was going by your user id, yes they are totally different than the 69's. I returned my POS new ones back to YearOne when they still had the 69's rebuilt ones in stock.

I would go with what Brian suggested then and get the reamer too..

It makes perfect sense that the bushings in the rebuild kits dont fit.... you need to ream the holes to pressfit the bushing.

Buying new hinges is mostly overkill unless yours were bent in an accident....

My guess you could paint them when apart, but then you need to be extra carefull when assembling. I did the reaming and reassembly, lightly greasing the new bushings / pins. Then I gave them a coat of epoxy primer.

I have them in the car along with the doors now for final body work. They will stay in place when the car gets painted.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Six-tee-nine, I realize I need to drill to get the bushings to fit, but from what I can tell the bushings go in the inner part of hinge (but that I mean the part of the hinge that goes inside the other part not the part that bolts to the car). Using that theory, the pin should fit or be slightly larger then the hole in the outside part of the hinge, the kit I have the pins are very loose and the head will almost go through the hole. Thanks for the replies guys!
