Tragedy as two reporters are gunned down.

I'm almost speechless on the events that transpired today. As a gun owner myself I'm extremely bothered by what happened here, almost to the point I want to give up my guns. The only reasoning I have with myself to keep my guns is all the criminals out there that do have guns. Even if we collectively agree to ban firearms in The U.S. The criminals will still have them. So How do we move forward? How do we play the game so that everybody lives?
The world is falling apart quicker everyday.

Carry a gun. Be a game changer. I don't care about everybody living. Just the good ones. Same with the deal, "Black lives matter.''  eff that. White lives matter to me, and a whole bunch of other people also. That's a black racist remark.

If some whack job looking for their 15 minutes of fame wants to kill, the gun is just a tool. Without it he could have used an axe, hammer, baseball bat, tire iron, machete, etc. Plenty of folks killed every year by these other devices. Where there is the will to kill, there will be a way to kill; no matter what restriction on the tools used are in place.

This guy was a loon, previously employed news anchor at the same station that said everyone made fun of him because he was a gay black man and that after the church shooting he was "told" by a higher power to carry out the shooting!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I see this as a good example of what we should fear.  Whenever something like this happens the news of it hits millions. It's freaky and somehow feels like the rest of us just skated by because we lived through it. :shruggy:

The loon's, the mentally sick, and the brain washed beheaders are in the news so much that it seems we are overrun with them.  The truth is they have been a part of our world for as long as we have been able to grab something to strike with.

In the not distant past (in this country) those that were a risk to themselves and others were recognized and either treated or confined for the safety of themselves as well as the public. Today most of the facilities that cared for them have been closed and the risky sort that used to be under some sort of observation now live with the rest of us.  What we do (by letting them free) is ask them if they are ok and will not harm others. :slap:

It is not politically correct to identify or suspect someone of being anything other than the good guy next door.  They need to prove their hazardous self to be recognized for who they are.  The only upside is they are few in numbers. :eek2:  IMO that is not a good upside. :Twocents:

Honestly, I think they should quit publicly announcing events like this.  All it does, is give other loonies ideas.  That, and quit telling the name of the idiot that does it.  They're not celebrities.

It's the per-capita problem with news.  We get the false impression that things are getting worse than they really are.

I agree :2thumbs:  But sadly the biggest news is the most shocking news.  The result of having instant access to the most shocking stuff is we are left feeling a distorted view of the big picture of the world around us.
The world may be falling down around us but it's not from random tragic situations like this.

This exactly.

Guns are 99.9928% safe.

It's a non-issue compared to everything else out there killing folks. It's just a heart string tugger, and folks use that to tug those strings.

What will turning in your guns do to fix the problem? Its already illegal to shoot people and there are 100 times the illegal smuggled guns on the street then the legal ones.  :shruggy:

Stop focusing on this woman taking free money.  She is a distraction.

Star focusing on who is giving the free money to her.  It's not the poor, and it's not the middle class.

Like I used to say when I crashed anti-gun rallies, guns don't kill nearly as many people as cars and drunk driving do.  As a matter of fact, based on the FBI's stats in 2011 you're more likely to be killed by medical malpractice than ANY kind of firearm.  Shall we ban cars and doctors first?  I mean, it would be the smart thing to do, right?  Going down the list of killers from most to least lethal?

Im still trying to figure how how turning in my guns will keep a criminal from shooting me.

el dub

First you turn all your guns in>Everybody turns them in. Then the criminals steal all the guns that everyone turned in. They make so much money selling them that they decide to invest in the stock market. Then they really make a fortune cause everyone knows criminals are smart. And Poof they become legitimate businessmen and don't bother to kill anyone anymore. Ta Da, that's it.

It won't, but many people including close friends of mine believe that it is morally superior to be victimized and brutalized by a criminal than it is to defend yourself with a firearm.  No joke...

The irony is, a guy who was part of the media was encouraged to action by media coverage of previous mass shootings.  :eek2:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Here's a great example I like to use to get the point across to some folks.

We can all agree that Child Pornography is bad, and it has a lasting affect on lives correct? We can all agree that the majority of Child Porn is shot with cameras correct? We can all agree that if we regulated cameras with back ground checks, and prevented pedo's from getting cameras that it would prevent them from making child porn correct??? No! we can't agree on that, because you know damn well it would not change a thing. It's also amazingly silly to even consider regulating cameras.

We also don't regulate how many child porn images these cameras can shoot at a time either.

People bring up the regulation of free speech in the comparison of child pornography, but fail to mention the tool used as a regulatory item.

Just something to think about.

WHAT I KNOW.... Photographers at TV stations are the brawn, the backbone, the unsung heroes, the boy scouts(and girl scouts) who always have a pen to lend you, a notebook (because the reporter will forget one), an umbrella and the skills to make you look good (or bad) on TV.
Reporters have guts. They are the ones who have to knock on a grieving mother's door, ask the hard question, stand outside in freezing, wet, hot, windy or humid conditions and try (TRY) to not only look good but disseminate information to you.
I know there are good photographers and reporters. I know there are bad ones. I know there are ones you at home like, don't like, don't really care about, can't remember their names, never knew their names and never will.
I know that in newsrooms, we argue, fight, laugh, joke and jam to get you the latest information. We are like family. LIke a big, opinionated, happy, goofy, family.
And I know that when something like this shooting in VIrginia happens it doesn't just happen to the people who were shot. It happens to the people at the station too. The people you never hear about. The producer in the booth who was talking to her fiance (who happened to be the photographer) as he was shot to death. The director who was calling which cameras to take, which graphics to put in or not put in, he or she surely sat in stunned silence. They watched in horror as someone in their family was gunned down on TV.
To make matters worse, it seems someone ousted from that tight-knit clan pulled the trigger. Over and over.
I know I've had nightmares that I am reading a "breaking news" script -- one I didn't get to pre-read and it's about one of my loved ones.
That's what this was, folks. My nightmare happened to someone else. That anchor who had to... what? Recover from that? Find the words to explain what had just happened? I can't imagine. I just can't.
I know this is just starting to unfold and that someone, clearly, lost their mind to shoot former colleagues to death on TV. I know that person desperately wanted attention for whatever it is he needed to say to the world. I know this is indescribably sad.
I know my heart hurts for those people who lost their lives, their friends and family.... and for their extended family at work. That family that works crazy hours, holidays together. I don't know when the pain stops. But I know you have each other to lean on.
WCPO - 9 On Your Side

If you dig back into our past, it brings up memories for several that work here.

Gunman takes control of WCPO

On the early morning of October 15, 1980, WCPO and most of its news staff became part of a major news story when James Hoskins, armed with a 9mm J&R M68 semi-automatic rifle and five revolvers, seized control of WCPO's newsroom.[5] Hoskins held reporter Elaine Green and her cameraman at gunpoint in the parking lot of WCPO's studios. He then forced his way into the newsroom and took seven more hostages.

A self-described terrorist, Hoskins stated in a videotaped interview with Green that he had, among other things, murdered his girlfriend before arriving at the studios. After voicing his displeasure with local government, Hoskins ended by saying that he would let his hostages go, but only after they helped him to barricade himself in their newsroom in anticipation of a shootout with police. Green and the others pleaded with Hoskins to get help, but to no avail. WCPO's news staff ran special newscasts from the parking lot throughout that morning. Hoskins eventually let all the hostages go, and the standoff ended later that morning when Hoskins shot himself dead while on the phone with SWAT negotiators.

You can try and ban anything you want.   IT WILL FAIL AND YOU ARE A FAILURE IN THINKING IT WILL WORK AND TRYING IT.
The biggest problem that can never be banned or taken away from man is FREE WILL.   I like the camera analogy.  Excellent point.   :2thumbs:

myk-- You have pointed out an important aspect about crazy/sick folks that we live with in this world.

Those that would just sit down and allow themselves to be slaughtered because to potentially bring violence in self defense is felt to be a better way are a threat to us all.  They tend to speak loudly and try to recruit others to die with them. :scratchchin:

Is this somehow a natural way for the culling of the population? :shruggy:   Their are many examples of masses just standing and accepting death.

Has something gone wrong with the instinct to fight to survive??

Lord Warlock

I'm willing to accept the excuse that this guy was nuts, was nuts 2 years ago and had no place on tv.  How is this any different than the kid in S Carolina? except the fact of race, they were both nuts and needing treatment and should never have been able to get a weapon in the first place.  Anyone that uses one nut to justify repeating the same sequence as a new nut needs to be put away, I've got some good anti depressants that will fix them up.

What flag do white people get to force the black people to take down?  This perp was a racist, wanting to start a race war, just like the other loon did, and we lost our battle flag online, now we need equality in action and results.  It isn't fair that one crime deserves national outcry and the other gets swept under the radar.  All lives matter, not just a small percentage of the population.

It pisses me off that within minutes after a shooting crime, the democrats are all trying to restrict guns to reduce gun crime, it wasn't the gun that was dangerous, it was the crazy fu*ker that decided to emulate other crazies.

I could not care any less if all of you own 1000 guns. It's your choice. I hope you enjoy them. Just like we enjoy our cars. Of course not everyone likes our cars. That is their choice.. The funny thing is this, while everyone tries to put an analogy to work and they are all bad. We can use a car to kill someone or stab them with a knife or throw them off a cliff. But it doesn't matter what you think is a good analogy because with almost everything else people have a chance to fight back or get away.  I've been hit in my car by two cars and  dump truck. Still alive. I got my ass kicked by 6 cops. Still alive. I have never choked on a spoon or done any damage to myself with a spoon. I was sliced in a bad once. Still alive. I even lived through me being on fire and being blown off a roof!! Still alive!!!!! Some of those things I didn't have any choice in and the fact is, I am military trained and I cannot remember any classes or lessons on using a spoon, car or a camera to kill anyone.. All the training I receiver was using guns..

Hmmmm, I wonder why....

Also, I would like to add that I have NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE TAKING AWAY YOUR GUNS..
Well, other than FOX NEWS.. And I still haven't heard them ever tell the truth about anything!!
