Happens all the time.  Scumbags

I've just contacted the NHTSA.  My wife's car was recalled to have the Takata airbag replaced.  When she came back I noticed they did not disconnect the battery which is weird so I popped the steering wheel cover and these bastards did not change the airbag at all!  They said they did and have the serial number of the supposed replacement on the invoice, but it does not match the one in the car.  I had a feeling this might happen so I also had placed a small piece of masking tape on the inside lip of the cover that would fall off when removing the cover.  It was still there when I checked.

Now I need to find out how to bury these guys.  This is crazy!

Well when the automotive public doesn't know any better, what else is going to happen?  People need to educate themselves but to most people, cars are just disposable items that you blindly throw money at...

I hate that you cannot take your vehicle to a dealer or garage without worrying if they are taking good care of your vehicle or if your getting screwed!!!! Lately I have been covered up with repair's on friend's and family's car's and truck's and I do the best I can to take care of the problem's that they are having and I usually call and check on the vehicle's a couple day's after they have been picked up to see if everything is good and if it isn't I tell them to bring it back by so I can see what's going on with it. I do screw thing's up from time to time but I take responsibility to take care of my screw up even if it means that I may lose money doing it. I will still sleep good at night knowing I did the right thing to make someone happy with my work. Usually this leads to them telling their friend's about me and I wind up with more to work but that's ok since I can always use the extra cash!!! People are looking for quality work and honest mechanic's these day's and that is most likely why I been so covered up these last couple of years!!!!

This is a sad and correct look at this topic.  It also is the reason that so many looking for a way to make a living will try whatever works.
Those that will blindly trust will pay with their lack of vision.

Dino keep us informed on what happens if you don't mind. I try to do what I can but if I don't have the tools or time I have a good friend with a garage. He is not the cheapest hourly but they do what needs done on time and are honest. My wife took her old mini van to a local chain oil change place and they found a long list of things to lie about equaling $1100. I checked it all out and it was fine. Women are targets its a shame.

Yup.  At least some of the girls I know are smart enough to call me and ask for a second opinion...

Dino

I'll keep you guys posted.

Why would they NOT do the work.  It's not like they're going to make money off of the airbag they didn't use.  Or could they?

The car company compensates the dealer for the work they need to perform, but not at full cost.  So the dealer loses the time they could have spent charging their full rate.  By not doing the work they can have their cake and eat it.  Unfortuately for them I'm not letting this rest.

Especially when we're talking about our loved ones.  Wait a minute.  Are we talking about your Ram Air Bird?

I was stationed in Italy 10 years ago and a friend turned in his 3 year old Dakota for a recall on ball joints. He was mailed parts from the states. He gave the dealer the parts plus oil and the filter to do an oil change too. They called 3 days later to come get it. He gets in the truck and notices they removed his factory CD player and installed a cassette. WTF!!! I looked under the truck and they did not touch the muddy suspension. I found the box of ball joints under the counter along with the new oil and filter and they were marked "Americano". All after he paid for the oil change. We never went back to that MOPAR dealer in Italy again. We tried to turn them in for fraud but got nowhere with our complaints. Be careful out there.  :2thumbs:
