March 2019...
If all goes well, I'm a year after that.
I am in good health at 50. No issues and no medications. Knees are good, back is good. If I'm at least 85% as good at 54-55, I'll be free of the daily grind and able to wrench and play every day!

That's just sad.  I've known a few guys that chose to stay in unhappy marriages due to the devastating financial consequences of divorce.....

When do we retire?

A person must have something to do every day. Can you imagine waking up every morning to  stare out the window with nothing to do. That is a fate worse than death. So when do we retire? What should we consider retired? Not going to work every day is what I call retired. But what will you do with yourself? As the retirement age gets closer and closer I think we have to take a hard look at what retirement really means.

I know through out my early working life I looked forward to retiring early, say sometime in my late 50's. Over the years I saved and prepared to be able to actually do it. Now that I am in my late 50's, I do not really want to stop working right now.

We made a major change 7 years ago. It was the best thing we could have done. I decided to retire from my long time job at an industrial steel company in the upper mid west rust belt and moved to the desert. I love it here and would like to keep working for another 5 to 7 years here. I enjoy this job much more than I did in the mid west. Weather and geographic location has everything to do with it.

I am retired, and still working full time. So what is retired?

Since you asked, it's more a state of mind for me.  Working at what I want, having control over my own life, not trying to meet the company goals.   That's retired.

I figure approx 1 week after I die I should have enough $$ to try retirement
