Guys im not sure if my linkage is adjusted properly on my car

my 727 shifts really quick if im cruising, I mean by 15-20 mph im in 3rd gear already

anybody know what it should be?

Also on a similiar issue, my throttle linkage gets hung up sometimes on the plastic piece that is there to protect the cable.....could that be part of the issue?

I plan on upgrading to a holley carb with the adaptor to straighten out how the cable pulls....but i feel the trans is shifting thru the gears way to fast.

any info would be great

The FSM calls for a light-throttle 2-3 upshift at less than 20 mph. Most gearheads don't like this but it is acceptable. If you can floor the throttle at 40 mph in 3rd gear and it kicks down the adjustment is OK.

Not sure what "plastic piece" you're referring to....what carb do you have now?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

If i floor it at any speed the car will not downshift, the secondaries open and it takes off.....

The plastic piece im referring to is around the linkage cable, to protect it from rubbing against the metal and cutting the cable itself

myk

I've got the short shift that John and the FSM mention, however my car will downshift at higher speeds when needed.  Try adjusting the slotted linkage that rides on the 'carb stud; that's how I could get my car to change its shift behavior...

Once again, what carb are you running?

"Linkage cable"? It's either linkage or cable, can't be both. Do you have factory KD linkage or aftermarket cable?

sorry

eddy performer carb, they just unbolted the carter and bolted on the eddy. The issue arose when i switched to a performer intake, changed the way the cable pulls back....

now there is a plastic "guide" that the cable slides thru...i guess to protect the cable from rubbing against anything and cutting it.

I guess i feel my trans shifts thru the gears faster than i would expect (being in 3rd by 30 mph) cruising....

now if im on the gas it stays in gear longer helping out the acceleration....but i know if im in 3rd gear, slowly accelerating and i mash the gas, the car will not downshift at all....the carb opens up (maybe not even all the way like it should) and pulls the car up to speed via 3rd gear

Ive watched a few youtube videos on how to adjust it...its still not clear to me....but ill watch them over again.

Got a pic of that guide?  There's supposed to be a metal sleeve around the cable that you clamp into the throttle bracket.  Your trans is setup right, it's supposed to be in 3rd at low speed when under light throttle, but you can easily adjust it.  Push the throttle all the way back and look at the kickdown linkage.  You're only supposed to have about 1/8" of play or so until it bottoms out on the stud.  Remove the kickdown linkage and turn it so you have a bit more play.  Now it takes longer for it to shift.  I forgot to reset mine when trying a different carb a while back and under light throttle it wouldn't shift into 3rd until 45-50 mph.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

OK, I'm going to assume you have the original factory "cable" throttle and the original factory TP "linkage".

First off, you'll never get to work right without the correct Mopar throttle lever extension (Edelbrock #1481), this will place the throttle cable in the proper alignment and allow the TP linkage to be adjusted for proper operation. Once you have the proper setup you can adjust the linkage for desired upshift speeds and kickdown.
