Aftermarket shifter

Has anyone put an aftermarket shifter in their 2nd gen and still retained the console? I would like to try and put a T or pistol grip ratchet type shifter, but definitly don't want to give up my console. Just wondering what people have done to make it work.

I am thinkn about trying to put a magnum pistol grip style shifter in my car this summer.I have a buddy who has a console i might try to get it to work in to make it look kind of original
