Here we go again!

Okay I know we've beaten this like a dead horse but com'on on this recent eBay auction for a 68 Charger.

I'm not attacking the seller as all he/she did was throw it on an eBay auction and the starting bid was $1.00 with no reserve. I'm sure the seller was surprised at the end result providing the buyer doesn't back out. Sold for 15k.

Okay details: 1968 Dodge Charger base H code. Non matching drive train, auto console, A/C. VIN and fender tag present but no build sheet. Original paint.

Is it because the way this Charger looks in the pics with the nice shinny rims and the stance? This car is $3000.00 tops in my world and that's pushing it. Non R/T, not original drivetrain, every panel will need to be replaced, front frame toast, and I question the rear frames. Okay let's say the rims & tires value at $500.00, does that justify this Charger selling for $14,500? Again not blaming the seller, it's the buyers who resulted the sale price.

Even if you were given this car for free you would still have $40,000 + in restoration on a non matching base Charger. But at least it comes with ladder bars.

Want to get the most bang for your buck selling your 2nd gen Charger? Throw it on eBay and watch the meter fly.

:o that passenger side sub frame is rotted.  I'd pass.   Crazy money for that one.   :rotz:
The grill is nice but the metal work and everything else is going to kill the buyers wallet.

Crazy.  Back in my Charger shopping days $14K would buy you a decent Daytona.  Now all it buys you is RUST...

Hi Charger Folks,
As a Limey I have been singing the praises of Gen-2 Chargers for 30 years!
There are similar sport-sedans(Jags etc.) here in England that sell for crazy money too. :slap:
Its not for us, 'in the know' to 'comment or critisize' on future Charger ownners.
This happens alot even here...
Folks believe they can fix anything 'Charger' as nearly all the parts are available.
They forget the cost of the parts/shipping, time, divorce and labour rates...

We always say,,, whatever the car costs to buy is nearly irrelevant, its the cost of 'resto' that KILLS YOU!!! :buff: :hack: :smash: :paintingpink: :horse: :horse: :horse:

You think that is crazy?I talked to the guy and he said 3 days earlier that i could get that car for 9,5k as that is the price he advertise her elsewhere! So whoever bought it for 15k was not doing his homework and not contacted the seller before!

I have been trying to get a '68 charger but prices are going up crazy still! There is this '68 r/t numbers matching, needs front fenders, quarter panels, who knows what under that, needs complete interior but runs and drives.Guy set his reserve at 30k!!!30.000 $,what the f..ck?You can get a restored one for 45-50,but of course you have guys trying to sell for 70-120k as well.

Not blaming guys trying to get the most for their cars but the idiots who pay way over these cars are to set the market!I mean come on,he could have bought it for 9,5k and he payed 15k for it?

Looks like it an ordinary guy with kids, house and a wife can not afford these cars any more!

Maybe the buyer was MALTFALCON777, http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,116911.0.html

I know it's a 318 and very yellow but this one looks like a decent deal, http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/5163164394.html

It looks like 1 bidder drove the price up.  I've seen someone post a listing and then have a couple buddies drive up the price to try and generate other bids because people think it is something special.  This may be the case here.

There you go for $3500.00 more you have a running driving complete car. And it says "best offer" so maybe it could be had for $17,000? Bringing that to 2k more than crusty eBay Charger and both are base models. If crusty sells for 15k then mine should sell for 30k (also base model) then offer the guy with the yellow Charger $17,000 and have a driving finished 68 Charger plus $13k in my pocket. Although I do not like yellow, well I would have 13k towards a color change lol.

:iagree: or the seller that has more than one eBay id.
"Dear God, my prayer for 2024 is a fat bank account and a thin body. Please don't mix these up like you did the last ten years."

cbrestorations

i would pay 8k all day long for that blue charger that sold for 15k. its a sellers market for the 2nd gen chargers. best body lines of any car ever produced...as a kid i always liked them with my family being chevrolet people only, i was the odd one lol.

Mike DC

Quoteits a sellers market for the 2nd gen chargers.

2nd-gens haven't been on the cheap end of the muscle car market for 30+ years.

They only get cheap when the rest of the muscle car market is even cheaper.

F8-4life

Well its ebay, so it does not accurately represent all '68 charger sales...
But there is no way that is a 3k car, looks more in the $7000-$9500 range.
I do think the stance and centerlines look good and pictures can sell a car sometimes.
I also think the original paint and patina attracted people, plus a good color.

472 R/T SE

Color combination had to have something to do with it.  Restored, that car's a beauty.

As I looked at the pix I thought it was a solid rig needing little metal work until I seen the sub-frame & floors.

1974dodgecharger

fake auction no way in hell someone is that stupid to pay 15k for that rust bucket that needs everything...

VegasCharger

Okay what I probably should've stated is that my max price of 3k is what I would pay if I were going to rebuild it for myself and NOT to resell it. But if it could've been had for 9k and then resell for 15k then I'm on board.

Two more candidates brewing that are ending soon:

3k wont get you any decent type of charger on the internet market these days. off the market you can still get lucky

Mike DC

Imagine what you think is worth about $1k . . . that's what $3k buys.
