Welp, the Hellcat bug has bitten, thinking about selling my car.

What does welp mean.  :scratchchin:

Go home, Redmist - you're drunk.    Seriously though, that is a super fine 68 and as great as the hellcats are, there is a real possibility the day will come when you will regret letting it go.  Especially since you seem to enjoy working on your car.  I think the newness and novelty of a Hellcat will wear quicker than expected, and the excitement/appreciation won't have the staying power of a 2nd gen.  Hellcats may be blood and guts cool now - but they don't have the same poetry.  That, and sitting in traffic with 700+ HP is still sitting in traffic.  Either way, good luck with whatever you decide to do!

What does welp mean.  :scratchchin:

whelp, young mammal of certain carnivorous species, notably canine pup, bear - or lion cub; human youngster

Welp. To be used in place of 'well', when one feels there is no more to say

Sell it! 2nd Gen Chargers are over-rated anyway

Hehe... ok, ok this is all great info. The fact that I like to Mod cars has come full circle as well, I don't think I would be able to leave the hellcat alone either, so I guess whats the point in starting with a hellcat?? In fact I did that exact same think with a Rubicon Jeep, and by the time I was done with it, literally the only thing left "Rubicon" on it was the stickers on the hood, and the transfer case.

I am seriously leaning towards just keeping the Charger, keep refining the drivetrain till it's perfect, make a plan, blow it apart, paint, put it back together.

New Challengers, Mustangs and Camaro's are everywhere. Most people are numb to it and don't really give it a second look, but a old school muscle pull up everyone stops and stares. :Twocents:

I could tell you why you should keep the 68 and forget about the Hellcat, but I'm not going to.  You're the one that has to drive it.  What I can tell you is that in the right hands, redoing the body is no big deal and with careful planning it won't take anywhere near a year to redo the whole car.  Body work is scary to a lot of people, to me it's easier than building efi as you did so it's all relative.  Start shopping around and make it crystal clear to any and all shop owners that if they accept the job, the car will be worked on 8 hours a day until done.  If they don't like it you keep shopping.

If you do end up selling it, bolt a carb on that thing and sell me your efi stuff would ya?  I'm tired of carbs already.   ;)

I agree :2thumbs:   When I first got my 09 challenger they were still new enough that it got a lot of attention. ---So almost seven years have gone buy and many thousands of them have been made. ---Just as a reminder the new car has the same body lines as do the old ones.
The sec. gen. chargers ---the real ones :D----(for example) looked similar for only three years.

The attention I get when driving my C500 is fun but it is not a daily driver either. Some folks may buy a new hellcat for the attention it will draw but if they do there will be a let down. The hellcats look like the rest of the challengers that have been made since 2008. (of course the hood is a bit different but to the gen public that is not enough to make a big statement) :Twocents:

My taste for the challenger has much to do with the understated look.  If I was on the other end of this I might want a viper.

Some cars are worn like jewelry.  It's just not my thing :shruggy:---I don't even have a tattoo. :nana:

You mentioned safety as a concern.  I'd love to see what you come up with for safety mods.  Like side impact beams in the doors, ABS...

Yup, thats a tough one. I added seats with a head rest for starters. I was rear ended in my truck, and had I not had head rests, I would have broken my neck. Having a set of supportive seats with a head rest was phase one for sure. I think If I keep the car, it will get a cage as well for support, and added safety.

It will never be as safe as a modern car, but I am sure I could get it to the point that it would be much more safe than where it sits now.

But all considerations!

Anyway to have both?

That's my buddy, not counting his '70 triple black Hemi RR, 999 silver paint '70 Challenger R/T, B5 '70 Hemi RR, a turbo Chevelle & whatever else he's got jammed in his shop.

I'm going for ride.  He said it's "WAY FASTER" than the Rousch/Saleen Mustang he had.  That was the fastest car I'd ever been in.  Before that was a little AMC rocket he had that was my fastest.

I'll be using the GoPro, just got new suction cup thingie that I can stick on the outside & videoing from the inside as well.  Can't wait!!!!

Where's a good place for the GoPro?  I was thinking back by the rear tires so you could see them spin @ 60mph.   ;)

The only problem with selling your 68, is not many people here are going to know how to fix any problem's with all your aftermarket up grades.  :Twocents:
Don't get me wrong, I love all the high tech. parts you have added. It looks like a killer 68.   I would keep it.  :Twocents:

that's how you know when a guy who keeps it all stock is going to sell it anyways, lol....(minus some exceptions, but rare)

then you have a guy who mods the crap out of it and knows it worth squat.....

Good luck on your decision. Great looking car but I would never sell my old American Muscle for a newer car any day. As much as I can appreciate new technology it is not the same. I enjoy driving my 2012 Challenger R/T everyday but the nice hot summer days I am out cruising in the Charger.

I have driven a lot of cars and have ridden a hellcat. There is something about driving a real car whose ABS/Traction Control/Stability Control is your hands/feet/eyes and brain.. Sure GT3RS Porsche's and Bentley Speeds with 616 hp, all wheel drive and 8 spd trans. Lambos - Ferrari's all fun, but the true raw power of an American V-8 and not the refined puss power of current cars..

By the way did a ride and drive in the 16 Miata, fun car.. Something about going fast in a slow car, fun!!

A friend of mine that has been buying and selling mopars for many years just recently felt he wanted out of the old mopars and into the new. Ordered up a Challenger SRT and started selling off everything. 2 months later came across a fully documented 69 charger RT/SE in great condition. Couldn't resist and bought it. This charger was one he was after for many many years. Maybe just take a break from the car. There is nothing like driving a classic Charger!!  How many cars do you know that when your trailering it, people run you off the road looking at it!!

Charger-Bodie

I would have big regrets if I only had a newer musclecar . I sold my 69 to be able to afford my Hellcat Challenger, but I still have my 68 R/t. They are both awesome to drive. They can't match each others personalities. They both provide a different type of experience .
