Welp, the Hellcat bug has bitten, thinking about selling my car.

The more I look at what I want to do with a car, the more I keep looking at the hellcats. I love my Charger, but I also want something safe to drive.

Where do you even start at trying to value a car for sale? My car is NOT original in the slightest, but it has a whole bunch of very nice parts in it, and the body is a solid foundation for a re-do. Little rust, and an original EE-1 car (I love that color!)

if I decide to sell, is E-bay the best choice for it?

I love your 68 because it looks like you built it from day one with drivability in mind. It looks like a functional, turn key car built by someone who'd rather be driving it than looking at chalk marks. I love it.

I have no clue about value, but if i was in the market now, I'd trip over stock restored examples to get to yours. Good luck man.

You have an awesome Charger!  Do you really want to get rid of it for a Hellcat?  To each their own but, I would not do it.

I would think twice before selling your car for a Hellcat.  Though it is no Hellcat, I have 2009 Dodge Challenger 5.7L 6speed which is fun to drive but nothing unique/special.  If you are just looking for horsepower then the change makes sense, but if you want something fun to drive that is unique/distinctive, then I would hold onto your car.  My $.10 anyway

1974dodgecharger

the mods done to it is gonna be a hard sale.....your crowd is smaller than people who want stock...

overall you have a badass ride man....WOW!!!

There are a few things beyond the drive train needed to have the best of both worlds.

Lord Warlock

its a tempting choice, the newer car is light years from the 60s car, and along with power, you also get drivability, comfort, and gas mileage all in a package faster than the charger.  Then again my 2010 RT Classic challenger is faster than the charger was, but already owning a new challenger, not sure myself which I'd rather have.  Afraid that if the old charger wasn't my first car, it'd likely have to go in favor of the hellcat.  I also know that i'd almost never use the power the hellcat has.

Considering the amount of work you've put into your car already, I wouldn't trade up.  If anything, supercharge what you've got.

I already have that in motion, and will be going to boost this winter.

Procharger D1 that will be intercooled as well.

I think what bugs me is that eventually I am going to have to blow the car apart to paint it, and do the body work, and that scares me some. I don't know if I could stand having the car down for a year or two to get that done.

Hmmm.   :scratchchin:

That is a tough one.----The best way is to just start doing it. Waiting because it looks like a long haul wont help.
A little planning and trying to keep to a schedule will make things happen faster.
The time you have spent so far (a piece at a time) is all behind you. It's just a matter of physical labor to expose the shell for the body work. :2thumbs:

Let me point out something important, and I say this as someone who REALLY likes hellcats:

In a few years, the Hellcat will be outclassed by some factory turbo V6 car that makes 1000 Horsepower and gets 75MPG.   It will be a footnote in the 'new horsepower wars'.

It will NEVER be a '68 Charger.  You will kick yourself every day for selling it and be one of those guys that says 'man I kick myself every day for selling it' while looking out at your Hellcat that's worth maybe 7500 bucks and has proprietary broken parts that there are no replacements made for.  You'll put it up on blocks and sit around swearing to fix it up one day, and thinking about that cherry '68 you used to have.

Don't do it.
[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68
[ŌŌ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ŌŌ] = 69
(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

Homerr

Are you going to rip in to a Hellcat and mod the heck out of it too?  You don't seem to be the type to just let stock be stock.

Cncguy

If it's really a choice. You probably are not a Charger fan anyway.

myk

I wouldn't worry so much about the power and the performance as I would the body and looks.  Horsepower can be had anywhere, anytime, but what's it going to be wrapped in?  If you want the new-ness of a factory fresh car, a warranty and all of that stuff, go for the 'Cat.  But if you want a timeless piece of steel that is historically as important as it is beautiful I'd stick with the project that you have right now.  Personally, I would stick with the 2nd 'Gen Charger.  The Hellcat is superior in every conceivable way, but one thing it will never be is a second generation Charger.  The 2nd Gen Charger only happened once, and nothing short of the heavens is going to recreate that awesomeness again.

The real question is, what do you want?
