Now that I got your attention :D

I would like to see the basic model chargers go head to head, persay a 3.5L vs a 318.

I often see guys say, "well the new '06 will hand it to an old charger", and well that may be true, but some "old" chargers will definitely hand it to a new '06 charger also.

If we were to have a grudge match of the 3.5L powered '06 vs. a 318 powered '68, who do you think will win in the quarter?

just curious as to see the basic models get a little notoriety also.  :icon_smile_wink:

i drove a basic 300 touring with the same motor in my '99 300 M, the six, and  had a 318 in my charger for a decade plus and i'd be willing to bet the the '06 six would take my charger in the quarter and on a road course...

RD

but what if the motors were both fresh?

I was at a mopar meet over the weekend and they ran a new magnum 4 door down the track.   With the v-6 it turned a mid 15 sec quarter mile. I don't believe a 318 68 would be anywhere close to that, unfortunately.
The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic feet!!!!!!!!!

The 06 might be faster, but the 68 is way better looking.

I would have thought that the 318 would have been faster.  I guess technology goes a long way.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

And using that same car, it seems that while technology has progressed, styling took a giant leap backwards.

If you can beat 14.5 in the 1/4 mile you can beat a new "Charger" with a 5.7l Hemi. I don't care what the factory numbers say that's the best time I've actually seen one run. And that was the best of four runs.

At Mopar Nats that is about the best I saw a Magnum Wagon do also. Here is a pic of it taking on one of the FAST competitors. The Hemi Chally was turning 11's all day but he backed off on this run as to not embarrass the new Hemi too bad.

Wonder how much DCX paid him for that.

did that FAST '69 Roadrunner that broke the 11-sec barrier make a run?

Who knows?  They could have.  He's an employee at one of the Chrysler plants in the Detroit area so maybe they've been giving a little backdoor help all along?

if the new hemi charger runs a 14.5 they have a big problem my cousins 04 rustang mach1  with 305 hp runs a steady 13.1 in a quarter  I know there is a weight advantage to the rustang but the hemi charger has the hp advantage  DCX shouldreally  take note of this.

Old Stang or new, it doesn't matter. All the magazines are saying the new Chagnum is slower than both the new GTO and the '05 Mustang. One magazine said the GTO's styling makes the "Charger" look half decent. I took that as a slam on both cars' looks.

Id rather have GTO wanna be than charger wanna be

In all fairness to the magnum, it was about 85-95 degrees that weekend, I was there.    The other published times for the Charger R/T have been 14.1...
