I'm just sick of storing them so I'm thinking of offing them. I have them in boxes and bags all over the place and I haven't really collected any for a while now. Does anyone keep track of these types of auctions? Is it smart to try to sell them all at once or should I split them up? I don't have COMPLETE year collections, but I have many from 1994 until about late 2004.

Put them on ebay. You will be surprised what people buy of of it. Even if you sell 1/4 of what you have you will have one heck of a feed back rating.

:iagree:

I sold about 150 of them that I had a couple of years ago. The 1/18 scale cars take to much home space. Some you will be supprized as to how much you sell them for, others you will be disappointed as to how little they sell for. If you sell on ebay, it will help to have a good pic and if it is in the original box, that will help a lot too. Also list what year the car was made (i.e. 1994) as now they are reproducing some in different boxes. You will need a lot of packaging boxes too to mail them in. Charge about $10.00 to $12.00 to ship out. There is a company I bought a bundle of boxes from that are just right for the 1/18 scale cars, and it was reasonably priced. I ended up selling mine to different countries around the world. But you have to be sure to make a note on the auction that it will cost more to mail to different countries. Canada was costing me about $20.00 for a 1/18 car.

One car I sold which I wish I kept was the 1/18 scale '69 Super Bee 6pak in Hemi Orange. It was a early release, not the repops offered now. It was in a white Peach State (I believe) box. If you got it, let me know.

I would say to split them up and sell them on ebay also.  I have sold a bunch of 1/18th scale cars on ebay and made some good money, but unfortunately I keep buying them too.

ChargerBill

They're not 1/18, they're 1/64...so I DON'T think I could charge $10 shipping...LOL

As far as selling them seperate, MAN that woud take a while. I know MOST of them around 1994 to 1999 are worth $5 to $10 each, so I could make some good money, but I think it would consume my life. Can you image how many simultaneous auctions I'd have to have going? And as far as shipping goes...if I sell a purple metallic 1995 VW Bug for $10 how much will that buyer pay for shipping? And what kind of box do I ship it in? I wish I could just off the whole lot for one lump sum...sure I wouldn't make nearly as much money, but I'd be done with it. Well, I guess it's time to look into little boxes and start taking pics of EVERY SINGLE LITTLE BLISTER PACK..... :rotz:

1/64th scale cars are harder to sell on ebay because of the shipping.  It is hard to get someone to buy a $3 car and pay $5 for shipping.  By the time ebay and paypal get their cut of the money you are lucky if you make $1.

I agree, go for groups of like models or years and in the case of hotwheels series. Then sell the rest as lots of 5 cars, some people put one desirable car with commons to move the "junk".

I would rather watch Rossie O'Donnell and Rosanne mud wrestle than list 2500+ cars separately.

Bill, what do you have in the way of Mopars? ???  I might be interested in a few.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

69_500

See that is my problem I don't buy any of those unless they are Mopars. so I guess I should  try to buy the rest of  the lot that isn't Mopars just to really piss my wife off.

Not me. I'll take the prolonged punishment of selling 2,500 little cars one by one over a three year period rather than watch 10 minutes of that.

Other than that I agree with these two. Split them into groups of 10 or so by whichever category seems most logical and sell them on Ebay. If you do that it might also behoove you to come up with a standardized method of shipping so you can expedite the process with each sale.

i sold some of my 1/18 cars on Eba. i had them for a long time with no boxes. apparently some were limited additions or something. i had 3 of them go for more than $50. i started them at $9.95 with no reserve

I have a lot of 1/18 Diecasts, all are out of the box to display them. I have 1/25 and 1/64 too, with some kind of rare ones too. The Ertl '69 1/2 Super Bees in gold w/ black stripe are rare, I found one at a garage sale. I paid $2.00 for it (it was in the box even) and I've seen them go on Ebay for over $100. When I got it though, it had custom rims from another ertl car on it, they are 3 spoke rims kind of like a Viper's , but not exactly like it. They look like something that would be on a hot rod or something. Anyway, I am looking to get rid of some of my cars too. I love Ebay, you never know what you'll find or how much you can get if you sell. I just sold some Dukes of Hazzard cars (1/144 scale, less than an inch long each) that were mint on their blister cards for over $80. I was going to open them and give them to my nephew!

If you list them on ebay, remember that there are a lot of younger people who may not be able to pay high prices for a set of cars, or they may only want particular cars. I would group up say 10 cars (similar models) and start the bid at $1 per car (so $10 or 9.99) and include a shipping calculator so that the buyer is only charged actual shipping. You would need to choose what method (UPS Ground or the like) and give the approx weight and measurements of the items though. Not too much stuff considering how much $$$ over 2500 cars will get you. In the bottom of each description, you could offer the entire collection for about $2000 to $4000 to serious collectors. Each car is probably worth anywhere from $1 to $10, maybe even more if they are older ones or Treasure Hunt cars. Well, good luck!

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Donate them to a local's Boys Club, Scout Troup, or your church.  You get a small tax deduction, they get a nice grouping and they have the members to separate, catalogue and sell them.  If you adhere to the Book and do 10% tithing (is that how that's spelled?), offset tithing with the value.  Kim
