Ordering AMD Sheet Metal thru Authorized Distributors

Hey Everyone...
So i have my sheet metal list and after speaking with an authorized dealer or two...wow!  I can save 20-25% off my purchase.  The trouble Im having is I was told I must send them a check and once it hits their account, they make the order.  I have a hard time sending a check for any amount of money let alone thousands of dollars across country to someone i've never met, trusting they make the order and the arrangements to get me the sheetmetal.  Crossing my fingers they dont take off with the money and I never see them again.  Im ready to make my order.  I need some security in all this.  that's a pretty big leap of faith.

What do i do?

Do you mind listing these people. Maybe someone here has heard of them and can vouch for them

Great guys and the cheapest I could find.

They are just being upfront and honest. The reality is 99% of the AMD dealers are doing the exact same thing. They process your card or wait for a check to clear then place an order for you through AMD and drop shop the parts to your home. Drop shipping is very common in this field. Often vendors have very little or even no inventory on hand. Their business is a computer. With large body panels it only makes sense as having to build in fees to transport panels to the vendor unnecessarily inflates the price.

I'm having to do the same for my Hotchkis TVS, that's 4000$+ I'll be sending.  You kind of just have to take a leap of faith with vendors  :pity: .  End of the day, it's their reputation within the restoration community.

Secondly, where are you ordering from?  In Canada, I was able to find a distributor that was able to price me pretty much on par with the American pricing.  I even got free shipping to my door.

For the Hotchkis, I'll have to wait four months while they get all the parts shipped up, but again, no duty, light shipping cost in comparison...  Sure I have to wait four months, but it still seems pretty win-win to me.  :Twocents:

Just saying, but see where stephans performance is going to be showing and pick up in person there. They let you open the packaging to check for damage before you take it. Maybe no discount, but many dollars worth of damage is done by shippers.

Forsy1979, I also placed three separate orders to Jeff @ 521 Restorations and have accumulated close to $9K in Charger sheetmetal and restoration parts. He consistently offers great prices on his parts and shipping rates, and would not hesitate in using his services for any future orders.

Agree! I have dealt with Jeff a few times, never had a problem, plus I got the best price from him over any other AMD dealer.

LOL!  I know.. this guy im going with is all over mopar websites as well as this one, he's legit.  I got what i felt was a great price plus free shipping and a few tshirts!   I am definitely listening and applying though.  Keep the referrals coming on parts and such.  I need all the help (and savings) i can get!

Any advice on Chroming in St Louis, MO area.  I see St. Louis Plating that looks pretty decent. anyone have experience with them?   I also need a place that has vinyl tops.  Where would i find a quality White vinyl top for a 68?   Im going OEM on most everything

I order from AMD directly because I get a discount.  :Twocents:

Paying up front is how it works nowadays in this drop ship world we live in.

Alright Forsy, here's a great recommendation for Charger bumper rechroming - Tri-City Plating - http://www.tricityplating.com/

I shipped mine from Miami and shipping was $48.00 - not bad. They straightened, filled and rechromed, and look absolutely awesome!
