header BBq paint recommended by my machine shop

Just got the engine back, and asked the guy about header paint, he said they are all about the same, but that the stove/bbq paint seems to last longer in most applications, I have heard this before, but wondered if anyone knew why.

I'm sure everyone on this site has pulled a can off the shelf at their local parts store and given it a thought... I know I have, but went the VHT route, anyhow. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Let us know how it works.

I have used it and it works good. It is supposed to be easy to touch up but I haven't tried that yet. The only downside is its not very water resistant. If you get it wet it will most likely rust.

how about using it, then slapping on some VHT clear?

best stuff i ever found that works good on headders is this paint they use to paint rail road crossings posts, it's silver, man that stuff lasts.  i painted a old motor cycle headder and exhaust with the stuff about 15yrs ago and it's still perfect, this was over a quite rusty surface.  i find all the actual headder paints to just come off within a year.  and i tried the black bbq paint too, it's a little better then the headder paint, and you can just brush it on with the headder in the car and not have to take them off.  i just took the exhaust off my dads 1971 VW Beetle, and the exhaust was new 2yrs ago, i prepped the exhaust and painted it with silver headder paint and now it's just flaking off and only about 10% is still on the whole system, and there's no better time to paint headders when new, and prepped.  but in the end i think nothing really works, and in the long run it's just better to just leave them bare, with headder paint i find they actually rust faster then with no paint at all.
