Dying Car Help

Hi there! New to the site. I got a quick fix'er up question about my '67 Plymouth Belvedere II

Here's some specs just in case you might need them to determine a cause or a fix:
318ci, original pretty much everything engine and electical-wise, except for the alternator and voltage regulator.

I had just bought it from a guy who had it in Cali pretty much since it was first bought. He said when he brought it to Utah, something was wrong with the carburator, like he couldn't get it adjusted right or such. But the problem I have is, when I make a hard right turn, it dies. It's more of a *putterputter die* like a fuel thing. Sometimes if I pump the gas pedal while it's dying, it kicks back in, but not all the time.

I've talked to different people about what it might be, but the sad part is nobody can tell me what they think might be wrong.

Please help! Thank you very much! Also, if you need more info, please don't hesitate to ask. I'll do my best to describe anything else you may need to know.

Off the top of my head I say check the carb. float level might be to low or even to high, but you pump the gas and it helps so to low sounds like. Make sure the air cleaner lid is not to close to the carb vents too.

Chryco Psycho

I would try putting a kit into the carb

I'll try checking the float, because the car only does it when it's warmed up. Would the carb vents be affected by the temperature change? i'll try both just in case, tho.

Unfortuantely, I have no idea what a carb kit is. (yes, I am kinda dumb about things, heh) I'd like to try it too to see if it works, because right about now, I'm willing to try anything to solve this problem, heh. So, if you could at least lightly describe what one is, I'll look into it as well. Thanks for your guy's help so far!

Well you could just buy a rebuilt carb. for it. Or take it off and give it to a carb. shop and let them do it. Even if thats not it, it may still be long over due. Cant  think what else though- lose wire but then its only when to turn hard and then its ok so I would think not .

nightstorm56

Yeah, a new carb does sound good. I just need to look up price ranges for one. I could just take it in to a carb shop, but, eh... I'd rather just have a nice, new carb, heh. ;D

If you guys have any more ideas and such, please, please let me know!

Well if want a brand new carb. maybe a intake manifold too would be nice. It has a 2bbl. right? If so I would get a 600-650 4 bbl. for it. I love my holley but I have heared good stuff about edelbrock carbs. like good for mileage , runs smooth and their manifold, but I wish they still made the small port single plane streetmaster they once had. Offy manifolds I like better. Its not to hard to change that it it be worth it over that old 2bbl. Some people like to keep their car like it was when it was new. I don't, if they had all this good stuff we have now do you think the engineers would have used what they did. People to pay more for stock hp cars so that might explain why. Good Luck with it thats a nice car you have.

AKcharger

I have 600CFM Edelbrock performers on both my Chargers. Good general perfromance, very good reliability and great price, usually around $240-$260

I was looking on SummitRacing.com for some carbs for my car, and I did find a carb/intake combo for like $400. I believe it was a Holley, can't quite remember off the top of my head...  Oh, wait, found the link on my comp...Check it out:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DCEDL007&N=4294925239+4294845683+4294908078+4294840085+115&autoview=sku

What do you think of this one? It's a 4bbl instead of a 2, so a little better intake.

Chryco Psycho

if you are going to spend decent $$ to get a rebuilt 2 bbl you might as well spend a few $ more & go to a 4bbl carb & intake

Chryco Psycho

Just Make sure you have an LA 318 not the Wide block Poly 318 , if it is a Poly it uses a different intake

dodge freak

If you do have the la 318 that kit is nice but I don't like that intake gasket. I did not look it up but it did say 318-340-360 intake gasket. The 273-318 has smaller ports than the 340-360. You can use the 340 gasket with the big ports but it is harder to get a air tight seal and even if you do it may not last as long. I would spend the $18.00 or so and get a fel-pro 273-318 gasket printoseal . Fel-pro makes both sizes Mr. gasket does not. Summit does not care because once it starts to leak they will try to sell you spark plug wires and stuff like that to get it to smooth out again. The last thing you want to have is a leaky intake gasket. Before you know it 3 or more years go by and I don't think the gasket that comes with it will last as long as the fel-pro. I would use everything else in that kit , should work very good.
