Interesting that he'd use the context of his Ebay listing for his $139,100 advert placed elsewhere isn't it. At least you probably now know what the reserve price is.

As for the shiny paint underneath... my thoughts are why I love my J55 coded car!  :yesnod:

And this !!

quote:/ There was nothing spared on this restoration. The car is very well done by a shop that has done many Superbirds and High end Mopars. The restoration was done to high standards.quote:/

That shop could use some guidance !! :Twocents:

Must say it is a nice clean job though. It's missing wheel well seals, rear diff snubbers and a few other things like the grill rings should be yellow. I can't say much on that as my spoiler is black, as that was easier to do than paint matching a new yellow one after a cement curb got the original.

What this reminds me of is what I see when I go to a roadster show.  Row after row of shiny chrome cars. Some of which are tilted with mirrors in the display to show the bottom of the car.

It has a big place in the hobby of cars in general and I get the motivation to make these cars toward that potential end of detail.

IMO it is a display type of car--not intended to be driven---

Examples of factory correct cars are different but some still prefer to opt out of adding undercoating which in my mind is a mix of two kinds of cars. :shruggy:

Clean shiny ten foot drivers are the kind of cars I would own. I do like to drive them and feel the whole car as it was made.

For some having a museum piece or an original un molested car is part of the diversity of the car hobby. :Twocents:

If I wanted a Bird, I'd have one that I could drive and enjoy without being worried about getting a rock chip in the wheel well.

Not for me.

Too much Yellow!
No car company would ever supply a car looking like that?
Mopars are blessed with colour coded engine compartment...unlike Frauds...
Colour coded floorpans and trunks is TOOO much for the eye!
Totally un-practical and an exercise in over-restoration indeed!!!

Great if you like Yellow, but I find it demeans the prowess of Stock (NAS)cars and their heritage...

Paint inside the trunk should not shine like a mirror. Really no need to clear in there however, he was probably referring the paint on the underside of the trunk pan.
It just may be the photos but I cannot see the sound deadener on the inside of the quarters. That and the pock marks on the differential would bother me the most. If the rear end was that rusty what was the rest of the car like?

it was my belief that the underside was not actually body color. I recently looked at a "barn find" car and the underside of the floor was unpainted primer at best not the red of the rest of the car and this was a car that has had some exterior body repair before work stopped over 35 years ago. it still has most of the original paint showing.

Mopar's were all dipped in a tank of dip primer, the exterior hosed off, baked dry, primed and painted. Whatever paint got on the bottom got on the bottom. The painters weren't killing themselves to try and get any paint on the underneath. The "dip primer" was usually a gray color - except at the LA plant where a lot of the cars used a black dip. Here is the u/side of one of my Daytona's - you can clearly see the gray dip color as well as the paint overspray.

Jim when you say the exterior was "hosed off", what does that mean?
