Fuel pump pushrod normally tough to get in?

Picked up a new pushrod today 0.4345". Same calipers. The stuck rod is 0.4365". Not a huge difference.

Also picked up some hose pliers. They look very promising.
WANTED: NOS or excellent condition 72-74 4 speed shifter boot for bench or centre armrest car, part number 3467755. It's a rubber boot that looks like it's sewn up leather.

WANTED: My original 440 blocks. Serial # 2A188182 and 3A100002

Got it! A383Wing, thank you for following up with a pic of what the hose pliers look like. Before that pic I was sure I was tearing the engine open. The new rod fits in perfectly. I had it in and out no problem, slides out by gravity.
