Window channel holes

Most of the holes in the rear window channel on my car are long gone because of rust. Most of the window channel is rusted through. I believe they are the holes to hold the rear window trim clips. Correct?

Since I have no more reference points and will need to drill new holes, do the holes need to be in specific locations?
