shifter tube removal?

How do you remove the shift lever in the picture.

The lever is welded to the shift tube that extends all the way up to the shifter handle. Only way to remove the lever is to remove the whole shift tube.

How would I go about doing that?
 What I'm trying to do is use the below pictured bearing instead of the plastic one.  $8 versus $80-$90.

Oops, on second look that IS the shift tube in your first pic. Bearing must slip on from the top.  :shruggy:

Come on.  There has to be someone on here, that can tell me how to remove the shifter tube, from the steering column.
