On the steering knuckle, around the spindle, there appears to be some kind of gasket/seal made of Styrofoam(!) between the spindle and dust shield

I wanted to blast the knuckle and other front end components clean, but don't want to damage this as there is no way I can remove it cleanly.

Is this part available aftermarket?  Is there a problem if it were removed and left off?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

It's just closed cell foam. There's nothing special about it. The last time I needed those pieces I cut a couple of slices off of my kids' "swim noodle" pool toys and used that. If you can breath through the foam, like that used in some air filter wraps, that's not what you want.
