I saw on Craigslist a 318 out of a 72 motor home. Would it have came with a 727 or a 904? (No response from seller yet).  Is there a difference in bolt patterns between the two?  What should I look for on the used motor? Will it even work? I want to use on my 74. The engine in my car is not numbers matching. It is out of a 71.

A motorhome would likely have a 727 since the 904 was a lighter duty trans. I have seen 904s in D-100 trucks with 318s though. I'd think that the weight of a motorhome would necessitate a more beefy trans.
All small blocks had the same bell pattern whether they were fitted with a 3 speed manual, a 4 speed manual, a 904, 999, 727, 500 or a 518.
ALL big blocks with automatics used the 727. There were NO big block 904s, 500s or 518s.
