We Don't Need Another Cupholder

And we sure as hell don't need touchscreen computerized info-tainment systems within reach of the driver.  Someone just sent me info about a 69 Super Bee getting smoked by a texting driver at 50mph.  It's time to make texting as illegal as drunk driving, if the automakers want to add a useful feature, in my opinion they need to create some sort of electrical interference in cars that blocks cellphone use when the vehicle is in not in a parked mode. :brickwall: :pullinghair:

Awful news.  Driving is difficult enough without distractions such as all the gadgetry that we pride and flatter ourselves with nowadays.  But, if the nation was serious about curbing this problem they would've done something by now.

How badly were the Bee and it's driver hurt?

I would like at least ONE cup holder though...

Texting while driving is illegal up here and everyone is still doing it. Facebook junkies just can't put down their damn smart phones. That said, my F150 is no better, considering you can play with all the dash screens via the steering wheel and I think things like that are a bigger distraction than simple texting. I can text on my flip phone without even looking at it. I consider a car full of people talking a bigger distraction.

The real issue is we're now stuck in a "me" world, where nothing around these morons is of any importance / care to them.  :brickwall: Why I'm fearful of ever putting my 'Bird back on the road.

We can ban phoning-while-driving.  We should.

But in the long run this will just add fuel to the demand for self-driving cars so people can go back to doing it.  Life has sped up and people will not be pried away from their digi-surrogates willingly.  This issue is bigger than just driving/cars.

I still blame the huge suburban sprawl & long commutes.  You can't expect people to spend hours per day in a car and curtail them from doing anything else during that time too.  That's a nice responsible idea but it won't work in practice.  We have already been eating in our cars for generations.

I agree with all of you.   What's equally as scary is the cyber-world is becoming thier real world.

I guess I'm just uncool; I sit up straight in my seat, both hands at 10 and 3 and that f**king phone and radio are turned off.  Even with all that I'm still a hazard but at least some of us are trying.  And yeah the Charger will continue to be of limited use because of all of the stupid out there...

I remember when your cup holder sat next to you in a mini skirt and tank top.

Playing with the phone while driving isn't the full problem, just part of it.  We, as a society, have gotten addicted to communicating with other people.  But, for some reason, we don't want to talk to each other.  Screens are more interesting, I guess. :shruggy:

It is in a lotta places (like the PRK) and is probably the most ignored law there is.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

It should have been illegal decades ago, but too many fat cats are making money on this.  It's not going to get better any time soon.   Now we have wifi in the car...yay...what a brilliant idea.

I was run off the road in the Charger several weeks ago by a douche that turned in front of me while he was texting.  I narrowly missed a construction worker and one of them huge cement cylinder things.  That sob was lucky I didn't get ahold of him.

I usually drive like everyone's texting and it has saved at least some body damage on more than one occasion.

I was behind some guy just this morning who was texting while he turned onto the freeway on ramp and never got above 35 mph.  What the hell!  Good thing I was driving my wife's Trans Am so I could shoot past him quickly.

I used to love driving and now it's a friggin' full time job not to get killed out there.

I'm with you on this myk. I totally ignore my phone once I'm in gear. Seat straight up and head on a swivel. If the radio is on it's at a moderate volume level (so I guess we differ there). But I've been on so many errand runs w/o even thinking about turning on the radio. I want to hear what's going on out there around me. And sirens well that's another story there. I figure I save myself from major accidents by driving defensively as there are tons of idiots out there. Plus living in a major city like Vegas doesn't help either.

Don't own a cell phone or I-anything.
When I'm in traffic I have my stereo on keep me from getting bored. I set the radio or pre-recorded media while still parked.
The last time someone ate in my vehicle I booted them out 30 miles from our destination. Can't stand food crumbs or sticky in my car.
As far as I am concerned the folks who hop in their car and text while driving are just as irresponsible as a drunk getting behind the wheel. If you can't dedicate 100% of your time on the road to driving, get off the road. It seems as if is easier to find excuses for our bad behavior while driving than it is to actually take responsibility for our actions.

Well I don't have a radio at the moment so I don't really have a choice lol; in the Charger anyway.  The other cars have the radio off though.

As for the Bee, it could've been worse.  Everything looks fixable from the pictures...
