Sure don't take much to get the status of "hero" anymore.  ::)

For real. Kid Rock is trash, and the draft dodging Ted Nugent...he could write some sweet tunes in the 70's, but otherwise he's quite the ignorant dummy.

I'll be keeping my eyes on this especially since GM has been dragged into it.

Kid rock could be the face of a modern day outlaw movement, just like Waylon, Willie and the boys.

I'm all for them standing up, But kid rock and Ted Nugent wouldn't be the first people i'd send to stop a flame war  , still, looking forward to that song  :punkrocka:

What's with the personal attacks, and how are they relevant to the issue at hand?  Let's take a look at this statement for a second.  What's the difference between Kid Rock and his celebrity rivals that support the removal of the flag?  They're hardly innocent themselves and are just as trashy as Kid Rock in that respect.  Somehow, all of those people aren't under any scrutiny.  As for Ted Nugent, sure he may be a draft dodger but so was Liberal Icon/hero Bill Clinton.  And let's not forget that Slick Willy also lied to the American people under oath; does this mean Bill Clinton is also trash or does he get a free pass as well?  And what is Ted Nugent "ignorant" of, exactly?  I'm assuming that all of his critics and oppononets somehow "aren't" ignorant?  Did he just happen to miss that class in school that everyone else attended?

The point I'm trying to make here is that no one, none of us, are innocent and are all guilty of something.  If we were to only listen to people who had a clean life then there wouldn't be any opinions to be heard at all.  And just because someone's opinion doesn't jive with yours, doesn't mean they're less of a person or are somehow flawed beyond redemption.  For example whenever I think of Obama and his policies I can taste bile in my mouth, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's trash or is ignorant; he just has a different way of thinking and doing things than I do.

I will say this: say what you will about Rock and Nugent, but at least they've got the balls to go against the flow of traffic and take a stand on something, when most would rather just lie in wait until the storm subsides.  Who here in DC.COM has done something about this subject?  Sure, we've all been loud and boisterous on our keyboards but that's about it.  Those two "ignorant, trashy rednecks" are taking an improbable stand, and that's heroic enough for me...

I agree with most of you statement, but these guys having balls, not really there are no repercussions for standing up, if anything it good PR for the guys. WRT being heroes, I don't think so. I work with hero's every day and these gentlemen are no hero's.

Kid Rock stands to lose his GM tour sponsorship over all this, that's a lot to lose in my opinion.

Hopefully he doesn't back down when GM gives him the squeeze.

And levels.  We speak routinely of guitar hero's but I think we would all agree the person who lays their life on the line for others is the ultimate hero.

I don't play the conservative/liberal game, nor supporting any celebrities that are pro/against the flag. I think kid rock is trash, with a fake personality, audio polluting music, and Nugent is too far gone with his beliefs that, even when he has something worthwhile to say, it's hard to take seriously, and just says ridiculous things to keep getting attention. Of course there's plenty of people just as bad, and worse, on both sides of the isle. The topic was about these two being heroes for standing up to their opinions, and it's really nothing more than them keeping their audience, making money, and getting attention. Kid Rock may lose GM sponsorship? Big deal. Like he hasn't made it already.

It's really bad when people compare these two to the real rebel musicians of the past, and it's sad how bad the state affairs of music is. You and a lot of people see it as bravery when others are straddling the fence to see which way it goes so they don't offend anyone, I get that...I don't find it that brave when they are pandering to their audience.

I have a general lee, and I really don't care much about the flag issue or am in any uproar about it, but I do have my opinions. The flag being taken down from government buildings? I totally get that, it's a flag of treason in the United States, south lost, get over it, but you wanna buy merchandise, display it, tattoo it, whatever? Go for it, it's a free country, and the flag has different meanings to different people, it's a silly issue. Stores banning any merchandise, Dukes of Hazzard being taken off the air, talks about taking monuments down, covering the past? To me that's just silly and stupid. Removal of the flag, whitewashing history isn't going to remove any hate people have, and make racism, injustice, etc magically disappear. It's just people doing surface work, than any real work, and wasting time focusing on the past and not the present and future.

Kid Rock didn't call himself a hero.

He didn't seek out the limelight on this issue either.  He got directly called-out by people demanding that he take the other side.

What is he supposed to do, anyway?  If he gives in to the pressure then he is pandering to the PC-police.  If he sticks to his guns then he is pandering to the other side.  If he compromises then he will get crap from both sides at once.

JB400

What is he supposed to do?  Be himself.
