It is interesting isn't it?  I think they've made the tag up by trying to guess.  Not a heavily loaded or particularly valuable car so I don't see a reason to make a fake tag but the mistakes are huge on there.

If all the 'tells' of how to spot fake tags are published, then the fake tag makers can educate themselves & their work will get harder to spot.

Frauds, liars & cheats read open forums too, so why educate them?

It is a Catch 22, but blame the evil elements.

If anyone looking at buying a car is not sure of the tag, contact the Registry for the type of car in question if there is one.

I have to agree with the guy asking what the deficit was.  While I could check each option on the tag against a list for 69, it'd help me identify a fake more than it would help scammers make fake tags. If there are obvious errors to the experts, let us in on the secrets so we know what to look for.  As it sits, I'd probably accept the tag on face value till I got deeper in and found out something is there that shouldn't be.

If it was easy to fake I would make my own replacement tag, It'd cost me more to fake one than it would cost to buy a replacement, only cuz I'd have to buy all the tooling and materials to make the first one...subsequent ones would all be less cost.

If you really don't want to discuss in open forum, how about sending me a PM as well as the other guy that asked, and educate us.

   just trying to learn the ins and outs of the 69 and lower  fender tags  , have got the 70 up ones down pat (even lynch Rd ) but know nothing about these .

Kinda looks like that.....but it may just be something jammed between the console and seat giving that illusion in that particular pic.

I've seen as many  fender tags without any inspection marks as with    a quick Google search  for fender tags shows heaps without

My '71 lynch rd built has a separate inspection tag.
