Anyone else enjoying Shark Week this year?  Some of these guys trying to put cams on Great Whites are just nuts.

Did you see the one that clocked the shark at 42MPH underwater?    :o
It wasn't a great white.  Can't remember what it was but dang that's fast.

I didn't get to see that one yet.  I'd say that shark was a Mako, which is supposed to be the world's fastest shark.

I will say the shows they're putting on is a lot better than those fake Megalodon shows they put on a couple years ago.

skip68

I agree.  You're right, it was a mako.

Did you see the show that had the clear plexiglass shark cage? Those guys are freakin crazy!! :Twocents:

They are delving more into shark research and science than they have in the past.  The missus and I are enjoying Shark Week so far and finding more interesting than in the past.  Still, can't hardly wait for Sharnado 3 "Oh Hell No!" coming on the 22nd.

I watch, but its crazy as I then have more reason to stay out of the water here.  They tracked a female great white up and down our coast, I rarely enter the water here anyway, one or two sharks swimming by while in the water will tend to make you water shy.

Yes there is.  If you look at my above post I gave a link to the trailer for Sharknado 3 which is set to air July 22.

On another note did anybody catch last nights episode. I was amazed to see the Mobula Rays literally leaping out of the water and doing belly flops. Guess the loud splash is supposed to tie in to attracting a mate. Watching them do back flips was even more amazing. Am really enjoying the week.

I caught that as well.  Thought it was pretty neat too.

I know the Great White is the most well known, and probably one of the easiest to study and document, but I'd like to see some shows on some of the other shark species.

Most well known?  Yes.

Easiest to study & document?  No.

But hey, it's the star of JAWS.  Even 40 years later it's still the big favorite.

Yeah, that thing is really impressive.  Just when you start thinking all the "20+ feet Great White!" stories are BS.

It's hard to imagine how big something like that really would be in the water.  We usually to imagine 20 feet while looking down at the fish. You have to imagine yourself underwater, standing up, and it's swimming by at eye level.  It would seem fucking HUGE.   The midsection of its body is bigger around than a hula hoop.

They're guessing this shark at 5000 pounds.  A lot of GWs can hit 30+ mph in a burst.  It's pretty much an F-150 with teeth on the front.
