Have a brand new battery.  Fully charged.  I start the engine and amp gauge pegs all the way to the plus side.
Any ideas?

Something could be shorted to ground? Is this reading when running or when off? Details of what year car and type Alt. ect, more info.

Found the problem.  Bad voltage regulator.  Oh well.  It was 44 years old.
