So the attendance at the Dodge Charger show as part of the Sovren Historic Racing Weekend was low.

But, there was a side benefit I had not expected. They let all the cars in the Car Corral do what they called a "parade lap". I did this thinking that it would be a jammed up snooze at 30 mph..it wasn't. I had my son Paul and 1972DodgeChargerSE (Joseph) with me in the Charger.

I ended up entering the 2.25 mile road course last, which turned out to be great because I cold hang back and then attack the turns and even the straights at full speed. I had new Mercedes high performance sedan in front of me and an SLK in front of him so I was actually struggling to keep up. But we did 3 laps at virtually full speed. I got up to 65+ on the straights and did the turns as fast as I was comfortable with...it was a friggin' blast!

The charger is bone stock except for bilstein super gas shocks and oversized radial T/As.

I didn't get any pictures because the call to the track caught me offguard. I will look on utube for some later. I doing this for sure again next year!

That is SO awesome! The fact that you were able to hang with the newer 'Mercs is just the tip of your Charger's performance potential.   Have you given any thought to modifying your suspension further?  I imagine with a few more aftermarket pieces from someone like Hotchkis or PST and different wheels and tires your bumper would've been right up on that Kraut stuff.  Way to go man!

Thats great, so glad they let you on the track.  It just whets your appetite doesn't it.

Cool!

Where are the pics?

Looks like it was a spur of the moment kind of thing.  This is why I'm considering a Go-Pro camera; you never know what you might need to film on the fly in your car...

Wow! They let you do that with passengers and no helmet?  Dang, when we did a parade lap at Indy a few years ago, we were limited to 40 mph.  Of course, going all out there would have been a whole different animal....

I may be interested in bringing my car down one of the days. I have tickets to the event, so I'll be there either way.  Looking forward to it.

1972DodgeChargerSE

I am definitely interested in going again this year and will hopefully have my power steering fixed by then so I can bring my charger this time.

What do I need to do to bring the Charger?  I have a weekend pass to the races, but it excludes the car corral.

Couple shots of mine on the track.  Had a guy in a green 68 Mustang ask me if I wanted to sell my Charger... Hell no buddy!  Then he asked if I wanted to race!
Great time this weekend.
