So  i little back story first. i was 20 or 21 yrs old and i heard about this 68 charger is my home town. my buddy had a road runner and he heard about this car through his paint guy. now this was about 15 yrs ago, I'm 35 now. anyway, i had a decent job and didnt care about saving or much else but cars and chicks. so we go see this car and sure enough its sitting out in the open in this yard next to a house. my buddy stayed in the truck and i walked up to the door. a sweet older black lady answered the door and asked what i needed. i looked at the car and before i could talk she said it wasn't for sale.  i quickly said, oh i don't want to buy it, just want to know the history on it. but i did want it. she said its her dads car and he was keeping it, and it still ran he just was working so much. so i left, i had heard he was offered 15k and turned it down. not sure how much that was back in 2000 or around there.
well a year later i decided to see if it was still there but it wasn't it disappeared. As time went on I started to really save for a 69 charger, R/T or not. I finally got my car and love it. Yesterday my co worker and I are talking about my car and I tell him about this 68 is tried to buy as a kid. He said " I just left my tinting guys shop and there's a 68 charger in the booth next door waiting to be torn down and painted". I didn't think it was the same car at the time, even when he showed me the pics it didn't click. I am color deficient and colors get worse in pics. Anyway, I ask if we can just go look and his buddy said sure. So we go look and it's the real deal, all original except one repaint. I started looking in the car for the fender tag, it was not under the hood, and I found the paperwork for the plates. Sure enough it was the same address all the years later. Same guy. The body shop guy said he was an 87 year old black guy that was getting it painted for his son to give it to him. I knew it was the same car, I was excited. Why I don't know.
I didn't want to snoop through it anymore but I did see the bill of sale from the used car deal in town that sold it to him in 1971, so he was the original owner since then. Body guy said the car had been wrecked before and repainted this dark green.  I guess it was red before, but don't really know anything else with out the fender tag and build sheet. Anyway here are the pics. It was hard to get some because it was in a tiny shop awaiting its turn. And I didn't want to seem to invasive and piss off the shop owner.

The sad part is that the car is in bad shape. The back fenders have rust holes in the tops of them.  Then the passenger front fender took the hit back in the day and its bondo bad. Rockers need work, and  door corners. The A pillar on the passenger side had a hole that was filled with caulk and painted over. But it's still runs, floors and under Neath look good. I didn't get the miles on it, I was too excited. But I might just take my truck there to get my windows tinted. Lol
The really bad thing is that he is just getting it painted, not restored. The body guy said he will do his best but for 4k it's more than likely going to be a bondo machine again. Not sure. Maybe he can patch and weld. He did say he is going to take care of the rust.  But it's his car, he's giving it to his son. Still a cool story
