Sorry i was wrong again from pole hardly enough people to get an accurate picture.

The CNN/ORC poll was conducted June 26-28 among a random national sample of 1,017 adults. Additional interviews were conducted with African-Americans and combined with those reached through the initial sample of 1,017 for a total of 303 non-Hispanic black respondents. The margin of sampling error for all adults is +/- 3 percentage points, for results among blacks it is +/- 5.5 percentage points. Results among the 727 non-Hispanic whites reached in the initial sample have a margin of sampling error of +/- 3.5 percentage points.

I DO NOT HATE people from the south just trying to understand the reasons for such issues some 150 years after the civil war.. it shouldn't matter.

I still can't believe how fast the Confederate flag was attacked, literally over night.

If other big business would support the flag it would make ebay and walmarts efforts in vain.

This world is upside down all because a lot of people giving a flag far more power that it could ever get. Everyone is supposed to accept everything about their fellow man , but why can't the things that the othe side be accepted in the same way? I don't like when people have their pants falling down , the names that it Apearently ok to call us etc. but that's ok beacause of some peoes actions from 150 years ago..
Everyone needs to live and let live. Not just whites. If we are all equal then it should be fair in all ways not just toward whoevers whining at the time.

Kinda makes one wonder the real agenda and how long this whole thing was just waiting for "opportunity"  ::)

I drove our General Lee twice this past week. I can tell you that it was honestly a strange deal. in my unscientific sampling, 100% of those who commented or gestured, did so in a positive manner.
That said, some offered comments on whether it was okay to still drive/fly that flag. No different than 3 weeks ago, unless you believe the progressive media.

Again, 100% were favorable to the car. All ages (from young to older), all races, all genders, all walks of life. NOBODY BUT THE MEDIA AND "BAITERS" CARE!
Nobody I spoke with or met was even remotely offended. This BS I read about, is clearly fabrications or exaggerations.  :Twocents:

Last night, again, got plenty of love for the car, and everyone related to the show/vehicle. Even a policeman turned to try to get a better glimpse of the car - everyone loves the General Lee  :2thumbs:

Not related but....... watch what happens to Trump. The same thing that is happening to the flag is going to happen to him. Amerika is turning into a third world country. Just wait.

While middle America was distracted with the flag ruckus & gay marriage ruling, congress pushed the Trans-Pacific Partnership along towards approval.

Pretty convenient how that worked out.

Here's my nickels worth.   With all due respect you can't teach pride.
The more educated a person is just means the more they can explain the history as books have taught them.   IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY KNOW OR UNDERSTAND THE WAY ANY GIVEN PERSON SHOULD FEEL IN THE PRESENT DAY.  ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT HAVE FAMILY TIES TO SAID HISTORY.

This is a southern issue and any and ALL voting or polls have no place outside of the south.   If a southern man says his great grandfather died under that flag and he was a good man then that's where it ends.
I will NOT be part nor should anyone else of taking that away from him and changing history to the point of saying all confederate families are racist garbage.    The sad thing about lots of book smart people is the lack of common sense.      A big problem we have is people's opinions based on what the history books tell them.  So to take a Californian (or any state) that has no ties or roots to the south and let them have a voice in the issues in the south is pretty stupid.   The only real experience they have is what they see on tv or read in a book.   That hardly qualifies them to have a say so regarding something of this level.   The history books only tell you so much.  Who, how, what, when, where and why.   Key points that are of historical importance.  NOT the everyday lifestyle of the southern mans family's history that we're talking to.

Bottom line is I would expect that the majority of Americans if asked would say the flag is offensive and should go because of political correctness not personal experience.  To allow that to me would be the most un-American thing to do.
We can't tell the African Americans how they're supposed to feel about the confederate flag any more than we can tell the descendents of the confederate states how they are supposed to feel.    Realistically, other than some models, movies and a good wholesome television show it's not my place to say what they do in the south.  First amendment baby.

I am not convinced that of those asking the "polls" or answering, should be.

I agree, this is a regional issue, but also, maybe some of those who are fundamentally trying to change the United States, aren't posting from the United States, or were born in the United States, let alone a citizen of the United States.

But again, you are right, this isn't - and shouldn't be a national issue. The "flag" has always been portrayed as a Southern Pride thing in my part of the country. Schools, mascots, etc., were all named for the "Rebels".

Here's a few more things to consider:

  • With "Southern Pride" no longer popular (if you believe the media), will we see the old battlefields of the Civil War paved over as parking lots, shopping centers, and housing developments?
  • Will NASCAR sink to an abysmal low due to their "core" demographic feeling alienated by "corporate" pressures/decisions?
  • Will the "flag" be banned, while real controversies ignored?

Looks like the consensus is, the flag is staying, except for one unfortunate one.

1965gp

I think we all understand there are two ways people look at the flag. I've asked black friends about it and they said while they don't see the General Lee as racist- they did say that their guard goes up every time they see the flag and I can understand that.

I will say- this entire scenario has definitely spurred a lot of anger- on both sides. three weeks ago I would never have considered flying a rebel flag and now I almost feel like I need to.

69wannabe

I have always flew the american flag off my front porch this time of the year and only the american flag but this year it will not be the only flag flying off my front porch!! I dug through all my DOH stuff that is in the loft of my shop and found a pile of general lee cars of all sizes and what's weird it I have a model kit from the late 90's with the flag erased from the box but I have a 2005 movie model kit that has the flag on it!!! Must not have been a big deal in 2005... I also found a brand new rebel flag that will be put to use soon as I get a mount and pole to put it on.

Lord Warlock

I'm with you 1965gp, I haven't flown the rebel flag in 20 years, but I WILL defend it, just like I defended the US Flag in modern days by joining the service.  I don't believe the majority of south Carolina residents felt the flag was racist or they would have banned it themselves, but they are being forced to by a few activists that will take every opportunity to rub wrongs done in our face and try to coerce the majority to accept a cleaner less argumentative past.

I haven't flown the battle flag in 20 years, but now I feel like I should, because it is under attack, and the True Southerners should be up in arms defending their rights.  We don't complain about Gay Rights flying rainbow flags, we don't complain about the Black Panther Party flying their flag (although I do disagree with them "guarding" polling places). We don't complain when Mexicans fly their flag on May 5th...unless they say we can't fly ours too.  All of these groups offend me and my religious upbringing and family values, why are THEY allowed to fly a flag and we are not?  Our flag actually stood for something, something big, something important, and it forced the North to understand that the US is made up of individual states that choose to think alike and are willing to defend each other as a whole.  By the way, it isn't treasonous to secede from the union, it is a right written into our laws, or there wouldn't be such a word.  It is an action usually left only as a last resort, to break off from the whole and operate independently or with others.  It has never been done successfully, but the option remains, and if the Government overreaches too far, states WILL secede in the future.  There are already states that do not need the rest of the country to survive.

I guess its the part of me that is Texan that is stubborn and won't give in unless I've fought to defend it first.  Texans remember the Alamo...which is anti-Mexican, does that mean we should erase our past and tear down the Alamo..because it offends a few Mexicans?  I say no.  Who cares if a few people are offended by something.  If the distaste grows to a majority then work it out thru the system that is set in place...i.e. the government and voting.

I knew Pole looked strange...it is Poll not pole...sorry grammar is important or northerners will think you ignorant.

The problem here is the same problem we've faced for years - political correctness. It's the same type of mentality that's prevalent in the government of N. Korea which is thought control. Only there's no such thing as thought control, there's only expression control be it by government, corporations, social media, whatever but they believe eliminating all these inanimate objects and erasing/rewriting history will eventually shape the way people think. The goal is to push a certain one-sided brand of ideology and smash those who don't comply. They have succeeded in many cases and so now there is very little resistance to the extremes, that's why one company or person decides what's politically correct that day, announces it and then it and everything related to it falls like dominoes all across the country. After the dust settles a little bit the PC Stormtroopers go through the rubble looking for any holdouts and when they find them they are outed and lambasted in a second attack wave. Meanwhile we all sit here on the sidelines doing facepalms at the ridiculous lengths people will go to in their effort to force an agenda. We get mad at our elected officials but then forget all about it by the next election so things keep getting worse, and we're confused as to why. That or these elected officials run on one platform and make decisions on another so pretty soon you don't even feel like voting. This country is a mess.

One postscript - IMO race relations have been set back about 50 years in this country since about 2010-present. Blame who or what you want but I think everyone of every political bent, if they are being honest, would say things have gotten substantially worse in recent years.

Here's a bit of history for you.   Back in the early 1970's a young black man was shot in Atlanta for violating parole.   The city was in an uproar. (Sound familiar)
Martin Luther Kings mother was playing the organ in church when a young BLACK man started shooting and killed her.   He hated Christians.   This turd killed the mother of the best leader they had.

THIS IS PROOF THAT AFRICAN AMERICANS KNOW THAT A FLAG IS NOT TO BLAME FOR SICK KILLERS.  THE KILLER WAS ONE OF THEIR OWN (BLACK) AND WITHOUT A FLAG.
I just thought it's interesting.
