1965Gp, I understand about not driving with the kids but I'd still drive it.   Everybody knows that the General Lee has nothing to do with racism.   Why worry?  Who's gonna attack you or your car?  Remember, African Americans aren't the racist ones, they never hurt white folks, They won't riot, loot, vandalize, murder, beat, burn down buildings or anything.         

I fully agree Mike.   Isis has no means to be a serious threat to us far as them invading us.  They are a serious threat for recruiting the weak mentally ill to carry out destruction on us though.   So called home grown terrorists.

To break this all down to simpe, terms:

1) Getting rid of one or all Norhtern Virginia battle flags will not bring those poor people back to life.  It will not prevent another idiot from doing the same horrific thing in the future.

2) This is all a political/social stunt, and lots of people and groups are jumping on the "feel good" bandwagon.  What will they blame after the next mass killing?

3) Anyoen who thinks the Dukes of Hazzard TV show was racist...obviously hasn't actually watched it.  Funny, silly, goofy, redneck, even perhaps not as good as it seemed back when I was 9 years old...yes, but not racist.  They taught that you helped your friends and neighbors no matter who they were or what color their skin was.

4) Where I live, the two biggest non-family member fans of my car, are the two young black guys that work at the Chevron station.  Even though the car was painted an ugly appliance white when I first got it, they always asked how "the General" was doing and when I was gonna get him all painted orange.  They continue to ask me now when I get gas, how the car is coming along and when it will be driveable again (it's been off the road since 2008).

5)The Dukes of Hazzard is arguably one of the most positive uses of any Confederate Flag since the end of the civil war.

Apples and oranges. For one ISIS is a current threat, not a bygone symbol of a failed secession. Second, I know you know the true meaning of the rebel flag and I would hope you wouldn't just use the lazy argument about perception being more important than fact. The fact is the ISIS flag does represent islamic extremist jihad and all the crap that goes with it. The rebel flag does not represent racism, no matter who flies it and for what reason.  

So why do people still get all worked up about Japanese cars? You know how many times, on this very forum, we often see something along the lines of "I don't care for any of that Jap crap...not after what they did to us in WWII!" ? What the hell does owning a Miata have to do with WWII? Latent homosexuality, maybe...but Pearl Harbor? Yet it's still an issue for a lot of people.

Perception is just as important as fact in these situations. The example of the swastika being an ancient indian symbol has already been brought up, and its on point. What would be the first thing you would think if you saw someone with a swastika tattoo?

Or the example that is always being raised here: "if you don't want to get shot by the cops, then stop dressing like a gangbanger"  What if the person is dressed like one but isn't one? That's perception vs. fact at work for you.

Perception is certainly not as important as fact. Perception is completely irrelevant by comparison to fact. The problem is perception is the fuel that drives the overreactant politically correct movement. It claims "what you say has zero to do with how I FEEL about what you said." And it's usually only a problem when certain people speak. It's wrong to circumvent facts with feelings, and I don't just mean morally wrong, I mean 2+2=5 wrong.

As for anti-Japanese sentiment, I totally understand it. I never lived it so I have no reason to potentially participate in it but the Japanese soldiers were animals. They made ISIS look like a high school football team. It doesn't surprise me that many Pacific Theater WWII vets could not forgive and move on. Look it up if you don't believe how extreme it was.

But IMO the flag of the rising sun should not be banned either. And it should not be used as an excuse for a WWII vet to be shooting a bunch of Japanese. It too is a part of history, except it actually has certain evil canotations that the rebel flag does not. You can't just pick something out and ban it thinking everything's going to be peachy once it's gone. It's an ignorant move to appease ignorant people.

I am very impressed with how rational and behaved this discussion has been so far.  

That it has not been blocked yet must have much to do with everyone's adult and well intentioned effort to not let it get out of hand.

As far as the original topic goes.----Their should have been a poll to go with this.  Some have answered the question here and when they did so --their intent is public.  A poll would be interesting

If I had a GL with the flag I would be very keen on how the public ends up on the issue after it calms down. If the lasting result is negative to the point of risk in driving and showing a car --the flag (and perhaps the car) would have to go.

A sad and frustrating situation it is to be caught in an essentially stupid and mindless way of thinking.  The fallout infects unknowns yet to be seen.

Stuff like this comes to mind every time I have to take my shoes off to get on a plane.

I think it would be interesting to know if anyone has actually had their General Lee out and gotten actual bad recognition. I've never had an African American take offense to my car, only thumbs up. I've had one or two white people ask if I'm afraid to drive it. Long story short, has anyone had negativity ever around their general Lee?

I would be surprised if WB literally stops selling DOH merchandise anymore.  It probably just means they sell un-flagged toy cars now.  They'll probably continue to take a buck any way they can. 

This isn't political for them, it's just business.  They're probably worried some group might take a mind to rally a crowd & boycott ALL Warner Bros merchandise over it.  Next thing they know it might be 50,000 people refusing to buy movie tickets to see "Batman & Superman". 



Okay, I can live with that.  We'll just have to slap flags onto the toys ourselves. 

The DOH fan community has already been trading around batches of custom-made GL decals for the existing toys for years, just to improve their accuracy.  Warner Bros or Walmart or anyone else cannot stop that.

This country is a mixture of all races and any group that promotes one race as right or hate on another should be considered a practice of domestic terrorism.
