That's a really good point Neal.  I dare say that Nazi's were worse and don't the white supremacist use the swastika symbol also?
What about All in the family?   That's a show that really pushed the envelope.   Can I say I'm offended to hear Fred Sanford reference whites as honkey?

QuoteOne postscript - IMO race relations have been set back about 50 years in this country since about 2010-present. Blame who or what you want but I think everyone of every political bent, if they are being honest, would say things have gotten substantially worse in recent years.

Too much Fox News, perhaps?  They've been on a nonstop race-card rant for years.  It's a way to indirectly complain about the current Democrat in the White House.  A few years from now it would be interesting to crunch some numbers on how much less air-time they were giving to racial stuff after Hillary got elected (Arrrgghh!)

There wasn't much actual race-news going on in recent years before the Ferguson stuff in 2014.  And the nationwide media really blew up the racial aspect of that.  They didn't adequately focus on the people's frustration at the predatory local govt.  (I grew up in STL.  Trust me, that was a HUGE part of it.)

I would say the "race trouble" lately has more to do with police-on-black violence getting recorded on tape and/or brought to our attention.  First the Ferguson incident got overblown before the truth really came out. Then several other incidents around the country emerged in the next several months that were more legitimately outrage-worthy.

With so many, so uninformed, who can really count on their neighbors to have any legitimate opinion?  :popcrn:

There were several before the Ferguson incident, like Treyvon Martin here in florida, they jumped on that one too quick also, you'd think the PC police would learn to wait until the smoke clears before jumping to the defense of someone that may not be worthy of all the help.  There is no doubt that in this case we had a racist white kid, they caught him, charged him and will prosecute him, what more is needed? the south to surrender again? I don't think so.

I do wish that things will someday get back to normal that when someone gets arrested, the media can find something else to do than stir the pot and try to enrage one group or another.  I'd also like to see real reality TV so that race isn't hidden and we the public are trusted with all the facts up front, let us see who is charged, regardless of race.  Like just yesterday, there was news that somewhere 50 youths targeted a store to do as much damage as they could, and you watch video of them storming into the store, not a single white kid is seen, and we do stick out.  Just think of what would have happened if the police had caught them in the act and injured some kid, for horseplay or minor destruction of property.  As soon as a culprit is hurt, the focus switches from the fact that hoodlums were robbing a store to look how bad the police are...they hurt this kid.

Those black ghetto punks trashed a Wal-Mart.   You know, Wal-Mart the store that's banning the flag so they don't offend the very same people that trashed their store.    :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

I agree :slap:  And I find myself agreeing with nearly everything spoken here. (BTW for the most part we are agreeing with each other :scratchchin:)

The connection of so many strings to other topics from this one is what we should be mindful of. I for one am constantly biting my tongue because I have an opinion like all the rest of you-- er--um--thinking members.

The fact that this thread has lasted as long as it has--As I see it--is the topic is relevant to charger owners and how our cars and us as owners are affected.

Thanks again to the moderators for being moderate.   We all can show appreciation to them by making their voluntary position as easy as our emotions will allow. :Twocents:

One more thing while I've got my dander up as this is a ssue that is dear to my heart. Do you ever notice that the people that are always screaming and protesting the loudest about tolerance are the last people in the world who are willing to allow you to have any your own different beliefs???  TOLERANCE??????

There is irony all around us.  Some may think that with the instant connection to information that we enjoy today we would have a better understanding of a bigger picture. Some just don't even open the door to look beyond what their first view brought them.---A pair of legs and a masked man/person slapping them. :icon_smile_wink:

As for the young and perhaps the poor specifically ?  They still live in a flat world. Their view is limited to how far they can see and what their friends can see.   Add the current connection by phone/internet.-- This new connection has possibilities they have that we didn't. But if one doesn't ask they will not see.  The tendency is to follow the crowd and fun until---until---  :shruggy:  Way to many people age without growing up. :brickwall:  Those folks are all around us and unfortunately some are in positions of power.

I don't have a remedy in mind and just as well because it would be off topic if I had one. :slap:

I was trying to loosely stick to the topic of racism which is the underlying excuse for the removal of the flag, which included off of the DOH cars.
Personally, I bought my car about 3 months before DOH aired the first time, didn't watch it much because  I didn't care for the sheriff or boss hogg characters, and after "jumping" the charger once by accident and decimating my entire front suspension, realized the jumps were killing the car I loved.  Daisy was nice to look at but I could find plenty of girls in shorts locally...lived in Florida, they were plentiful. Anyway, I do not count myself as a DOH supporter, but that doesn't mean I can't argue or politely discuss the topic of the flag itself.  I do however have an unopened DOH model in the bedroom closet, still in plastic wrap.  Maybe it will be worth something one day now that the series is dead in reruns.  I imagine Bo and Luke are a bit pissed in real life that now they won't be getting residuals from reruns, those could have kept going for decades worldwide.

None of the newscasts I've seen regarding the Walmart incident have mentioned the fact that the vast majority of those participating were not white people.

Keeping on point with the topic it sounds like everyone except Bubba will keep their flag.

Now- what can we do as individuals to help this scenario? Is there a way to get the general lee more accepted? Do we let time try to fix this or do we need to take action? If so- what?

A very good point. :2thumbs:   When this whole thing passes to the next urgent topic of importance what will be the aftermath?

Will our cars and memorabilia be worth more?--less?--same?

I as an optimist am counting on the very short attention span of the general public.

To keep a discussion alive one has to continue the discussion. The only thing time will add to a topic is to diminish it's value especially if the discussion diminishes with it.

Letting stuff die is one of the strongest offenses taken when there is resolution near. (by those with the weak side of the discussion).  It is the first clear tell that the fight  for rational thinking is lost.  :smilielol:

I haven't watched more than 15 minutes of Fox news in the past two years. Anyway, I stand by my comments. Race relations have taken a serious nosedive in the past few years but feel free to read into my comment all you want. It's not relevant to my opinion and/or reality.

My reference to flat earth thinking is what I see as a real problem in a large portion of current and speaking media. This is what is seen and heard on a daily basis by the masses and fuels messes like we feel in this one.

Please don't be done.---And the disc is round. :nana: :icon_smile_wink:---Shall we talk about spheres?  Moving on to a whole new dimension?

Okay, sorry about my Fox News assumption.  I heard some of that channel at my neighbors' place lately and it's fresh in my mind.

I had forgotten about the Trayvon Martin thing.

If there has been any real increase in racial tensions (it's always there but IMO it wasn't notably high before Ferguson) then IMO the economy going & staying in the toilet is probably the most relevant thing.  When everyone loses a few bucks it's the minorities at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder that always get hit the hardest.  Stress, frustration, violence, crime, incarceration, debtors' prison . . . it all goes up.

But in the big picture violent crime is still down in the USA.  When compared on decades-long scales the 21st century has been pretty good so far.
