Can we predict the comments that would come from a new car with the name Cuda? ---And if it had four doors?-- :slap:

Even if the name Plymouth was resurrected along with it their would be lots of complaints. Especially so if it fell short of what the new challenger has.

:yesnod: the old farts would find something to bitch and moan about no matter what

In the late 90's/early 00's, it was that Chrysler didn't have any RWD v8 cars.  So when the Charger/Magnum/300 came out, they whined that they were ugly, and that it was a travesty that there still wasn't a two door muscle car....

So then the Challenger came out, and it was too big, too heavy, too expensive (even though "I wasn't gonna buy one anyway...my 82 D100 is still going strong"), and the 5.7 Hemi was not competitive with the 5.0 and Camaro.....

So then the Hellcat came out, and there werent enough of them, and the dealer markups were too much, and the MSRP was only for them rich folks to begin with...

So then the 'Cuda would come out and...well, you know where this goes.

Good points Ponch.  The 5.7 Hemi was not competitive with the 5.0 and Camaro ?

that's what "they" kept saying: "well, not that I plan on buying either of those anytime soon, but if I were, I wouldn't spend $35K on a 340hp 5.7 Challenger when I can spend $29K on a 400hp Camaro SS. Therefore, the new Challenger sucks"

What about the 6.1 Hemi ?  Is that a "SRT" motor ?

HPP

Any of the new Hemis should have more power potential than the GM LS by virtue of the opposed valve layout. LS engines are all inline valve, wedge heads. Ford's Coyotes are a four valve pent roof design, so they have some huge airflow potential.

Yep...but a new SRT car (Charger/300/Charger/Magnum) was never less than $40K new, versus a similarly powered mustang or camaro that would be $30K.

But the rap on the Hemi (and perhaps rightfully so) has always been that although it may have more potential, from a cost perspective it is far more expensive to get that power out of it than from its GM/Ford counterparts.

Again, im just playing Devil's Advocate here....just raising the arguments that the 'haters' would bring up.

Are you sure, "you can spend $29K on a 400hp Camaro SS"  That sounds too good to be true.

True, but I don't build Mopars because they are cheap or easy. They are unique with some very well thought out engineering to them. When I needed cheap and easy, I built chevys. I'd also add in disposable for the trifecta of GM advantages.  IMO, Dodges are not an orphaned brand that necessitate using cross bred engine combinations to keep them alive. If you ( general you) are that cheap, its probably is best for you to buy Novas or repop Camaros.

When they first came out with the latest gen (around 2009 or so), the price for a 426 hp SS was just about $30.5K. So I was off on the price by a little, but i was also off on the hp.

the base challenger R/T (370 hp) was about $30K too and it was barebones (I know, because that's what I bought/own). To get 400+hp you had to get the SRT (420 hp) and those were in the low $40s for the cheapest ones. If you could find them.

But like HPP said...that's not why into mopars. Even so, a lot of so called hard core mopar guys are the first to trash the cars because of things like that...

That's a three year old article.

Chrysler has said they have no intention of building a Cuda. They have been saying this for the last 5 years. Until they unveil one at a major auto show, it ain't gonna happen.

There are some private conversions of new Challengers to look like Cudas. Some are done very well, some are so-so. None are factory efforts.

There is not going to be any new Barracuda.

Yes there is.  I guess you weren't included in the recent memo.

I always liked and dreamed about the '99 concept (played with the Hot Wheels replica for days), but.....it's 2015 now and I don't think the concept has aged very well.  That car looks and screams 90's fantasy car and it looks dated.  I might be able to say that the current Charger makes a better Charger than the concept car... :shruggy:

Sorry!  No can do.  Everything about the car is "top secret".  No cameras allowed.......no videos.  Security (body) scanners and searches before entering.  What a beautiful metallic green convert machine.  That's all for now........ :2thumbs:

The news about a possible convert cuda is no longer new news.

I'm sort of turning around in place trying to understand what I'm reading here. :scratchchin:

So you saw a car on a loading dock?----Are you that guy flash forward?

All I come up with is you know something we don't know.  Are you bound by some sort of connection that we should envy?

Why would you post a teaser like this?  We already know how great and connected you are. You've told us many times in the past. :shruggy:

That 1999 concept Charger pic is still gonna be causing online rumors in 2099.
