My E brake pedal mechanism does not seem to work correctly.
It works like a foot brake and won't stay down.

Found this but pic is not really what I am looking for.

Anyone have a pic? I think I may be missing a pin and a clip or spring or something.

Thanks!

HeavyFuel

My guess is there is a spring or somethign else missing, like you said.  but without peering into a good one, and yours..... :shruggy:

This is the best pic of mine I could find....sorry no pics of the guts.

The small internal spring is missing or broken

Thanks for the help, looks like i'll have to pull the assembly out and go through it. Frustrating though, every damn thing on this car is in some way hacked, destroyed or modified.

I have a parking brake assembly here in my hands
It has a chrome handle on it so I think it makes it a 68 version

It all looks the same as the picture HeavyFuel posted

The only spring on mine is the one around the release handle shaft

If you look at the picture you can see a pin near the top right hand side that the release mechanism pivots on

Just arbove that frame work you should be able to feel a dog that is just gravity into the notches

I will see if I can get a picture up loaded

First pic with the dog flipped up
Second pic back side
Third pic straight down from top
Forth pic dog flipped up

I think maybe your dog is just stiff and once it is pry-ed up to release the brake pedal it is just not dropping back down
You should be able to just push it down when still in the car
Maybe work a little oil in it a couple of times to loosen it up
Do not think you need to take it all the way out of the car

Is there a cotter pin there somewhere?

70 sublime

Nope
There is just a large flat rivet
Just give me a minute and I will take a picture from the bottom side

If you look carefully you can see the rivet

Ok, I messed with mine and I think it needs to come out for me to see what's going on. The previous owner thought he would modify it so he could do power slides like the general lee.

Thanks for the pics, much appreciated.

The reason you do not see another spring is because it broke and is missing. The dog does not make contact from gravity it is kept down into place by the tiny internal spring. I have a few 68-70 B-Body ones here now and have had over 50 in the past and they all are suppose to have an internal spring or they will not function correctly

There is a way to replace the spring, correct?

Moparparts

666,
Here are pics clearly showing the internal spring you need.

Moparparts

Yes the spring is replaceable, i have a small tool for installing and removing those springsthat i use.

Took it out today an the spring is there..this bushing is shot allowing the pull handle spring to go past it.

Anyone know what it is?

comet_666

Could I just tac a clip there on the other side?

The bushings were available for a while, I'll have to look through my receipts and see where I got mine from. I've seen posts on here of people using star washers etc.
