NSS Question:

Hi all,

Just a quick question to ask about the NSS if I may please.  Basically,  my NSS tends to be a little leaky at the pigtail connection.  I had both swapped out + had the new NSS installed with Teflon tape.  I realize that this is a long shot, but I was thinking about calling around to the shops to see if there is any such thing as having 'something' to seal up this specific point,  by chance?  I have some Right Stuff sealant around it, but it still is a little leaky.  With me not being a transmission guy, is there anything that can be used (other than some good ol' Permatex)? I'm thinking that its just aftermarket stuff being 'aftermarket. '

Thank you for any replies,
Aaron

If your Neutral Safety Switch is leaking at the pigtail, It is failing internally, not around the threads. So teflon tape will not be the cure. I would replace the NSS with a good switch! Get one with a guarantee and keep bringing it back until you get one that doesn't leak. As far as "permatex" or any RTVs go (not that this is the solution in this case) I use "MOPAR ATF RTV" It's the best stuff you'll ever find in the way of Non-high temp RTV!  :Twocents:

Hey man, thank you for your reply. Here is a question - where is the 'best' place to purchase a high quality NSS? At this point, cost isn't an issue - I just want it to be 'right.' Is there a place in particular that has a really good track record for their NSS or is it pretty much purchase from the local parts store and hope for the best, in general?

Thank you again for any input,
Aaron

I havnt found a good one yet aftermarket. Cheap made in china junk.

I agree w/ ya there Joe - the 'Made in China' is everywhere. Too bad we can't find New Old Stock with these. In my attempt to try yet another one, I've been thinking about going with the Wells brand NSS. Yeah, its a little more, but I've been running the name-brand 'Wells' voltage regulator and its been functioning flawlessly. When choosing a VR two years ago, I called around and the Wells Company is located in the Midwestern United States vs. outsourcing to foreign places, such as China.

Has anyone used these?:

As a side note, and I realize that this is 'off the wall' and yeah probably an idea out of desperation, but if I said the heck with my mini back-up lights and pigtail connection altogether - is there such a thing as a form of plug (for the lack of a technical term) for the NSS in an effort to simply fill it in and stop any leakage?

The connector was never intended to hold fluid in, only to keep dirt out. If there's fluid leaking from the connector, the switch is faulty...the seal between the steel body and the plastic insulator isn't working.

The only problems I hear a lot of about the current crop of switches is the overall length...some are too long.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
