I need a new radiator

I am thinking of getting a new radiator as I have had some issues with cooling. I have a 383 in the 67 with a new 160 degree thermostat and new water pump. In checking out my current radiator, I see that I have a 22" radiator. I also see that my transmission cooling lines have been "modified" and bypass the radiator and go to a separate transmission cooler mounted in front of my radiator.

I checked out this site: http://www.rosevillemoparts.com/reference_radiatorguide.php?SID

I see that my car originally came with a 26" radiator with the transmission cooler built in. I am thinking that in removing the transmission cooler from the front, along with a new larger radiator, my problems may be solved.

So I have two questions - will this be a good option: http://www.speedcooling.com/Mopar-26/prod_60.html

And - if it will fit, then what about a fan shroud?

Here are some pictures of what I'm working with.

The separate cool lines are a great idea for that trans, but is your engine getting too hot, due to a small radiator ?, than go bigger.  It won't anything, but help.

I think having a smaller radiator along with blocking it with the separate transmission cooler certainly can't help. If I buy that aluminum one in the link above, should I buy a shroud? And what kind?

BUY ALUMINUM 26  "CHAMPION" AND GET A GOOD SHROUD
MINE 528 HEMI  RUNS 180 DEG. OR LESS, NO SHROUD. WHEN MOVING.

STARTS TO WARM UP WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND 80 + DEG.
GOING TO GET RID OF MECH FAN AND GO DUEL  ELECTRIC
1969 dodeg charger, 528 hemi ,Tko 5spd.

be sure to only use distilled water with anti freeze ,use a sacrificial anode  and have a good ground with that  aluminium rad  :Twocents:

I'm not saying it's a bad idea to get a new rad and shroud...but you should not have cooling issues with a properly functioning 22" rad.  How hot is it getting, under what circumstances, and how are you measuring temperature?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Agreed.  No reason that a 22" would not work.  Many 383 came with 22" radiators

500" NA, Eddy head, pump gas, exhaust manifold with 2 1/2 exhaust with tailpipes
4150 lbs with driver, 3.23 gear, stock converter
11.68 @ 120.2 mph

I do believe the bigger the better.  :Twocents:
I never use a shroud.

I am pretty sure that my radiator is pretty clogged and instead of getting my 22" radiator recored, I ordered a new 26" aluminum radiator ( http://www.speedcooling.com/Mopar-26/prod_60.html ) and new mopar 26" shroud ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MJ364PQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00), a zinc anode rod, a new radiator cap, and will fill it with distilled water and coolant. I'm kind of excited to do this next week as I also have a new window washer reservoir and pump that will also go in at the same time.

I will report back after I get it all together. Thanks everyone!

Looks like good choices. I am interested to see the review when you get the parts.
