I have a '67 Charger with a 493 stroker motor. I'm going to guess the horsepower to be around 550 or so (545 lift cam). I need to replace the driver's side motor mount. This is a street car not a race car. My question is: should I replace the driver's side mount with another rubber one, or should I go solid? With the rubber, I'm worried about it busting again, but with the solid, I'm worried about excessive vibration. What do y'all think?

I just went through this on my 70.  Second time in a few years its broke so I followed the advice Ron posted here:

If your motor is putting out 550hp then I would definitely go for something a bit sturdier.  My motor put out 460hp when it was built 10 years ago but its getting tired now and still rips my mount apart.   It wont anymore..... :)  But I do have more vibration from it, especially stopped at lights.   The whole reason for the mod is to keep the mount rubber in tact to still allow for dampening while securing the stud plate to the rubber so it doesnt rip off.  Mine didnt come out as nice as Ron's example and I had a lot more of my bolt head showing and I think this is the problem.   If you make sure the top (allen head) is countersunk or flat enough to the plate you might get better results than I.

Mancini sells a great magmount that does not cause vibration.  I have install these on both my 440 '68 Charger and 408 stroker '71 Challenger and am very pleased!  http://www.manciniracing.com/benmaset.html
