Who has the longest commute to work?

I live about 15 miles west of NYC in NJ. My commute door to door is about 1h 10m. About 15m of walking, 35m commuter train, 20m subway. I like it better than driving because I can read, listen to music or just zone out if I'm tired. I used to work in Jersey City and the 12 mile commute would take anywhere from 35m to 1.5h depending on traffic and accidents etc. I don't miss it.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly.  ~A. Einstein

43 miles, I allow an hour.

I'm not livin' in the "hood" of Atlanta. :2guns:

I'm an hour north of the airport among the boutique horse farms, and rich snobs.

I consider myself a "chigger on the rich man's butt!"  :moon:

I am also about an hour north of atlanta, where about's do you live Beav??? I only drive about 20 to 25 min's to the shop but I don't work at the shop. It's another 15 min's across town to the plant that I usually work at. Sometime's I have to drive about 2 1/2 to 3 hours if I have to go out on a road call to one of our far off customer's and then it's that long of a drive back home. Have made that trip alot over the past 6 month's sometimes three times a week but lately it has slowed down there I guess so I haven't had to make the trip but once in the past few weeks...

My current job is 3.5 miles one way & it varies from 10 to 15 minutes depending on which roads I take, or if a get stuck behind a school bus. My last job varied because I was on a land surveying crew & we had job sites as far as 2.5 hours one way. The office was less than 40 miles from my house & it took about 40 minutes to get there since it was mostly highway driving.

When people say they can never commute & wonder why someone does, it has mostly to do with affordability & quality of life. I would have liked to have stayed in the same area of where my parents had a house, northern New Jersey, but prices were insane in 1989 when my wife & I were looking at houses. There were other reasons I wanted to move upstate in New York but cost was the biggest factor.

A good example was one house we saw & liked in Bergenfield, NJ for close to $175,000. It was a 2 story, older colonial that had been vacant for 15 years. The lot was big & there was a detached, 3 car garage & a big green house. When we went to see it, it needed to be completely gutted. The plaster was all falling down, the electric, the plumbing & more was original & probably from the 1920's. The greenhouse was big, maybe 15 x 30 & needed some work but it was repairable. I couldn't wait to see the garage but was told, "That doesn't come with the house, the lot was sub-divided & it will be torn down so a new house can be built."

Great, no garage, no room to build one & a house that needed EVERYTHING & couldn't be lived in until it was done. We got our current house when it was 1.5 years old for almost $50,000 less. The distance my wife drove from her apartment to work was 6 miles & took 45 to 50 minutes. When we moved into our house she drove 50 miles & it took 45 to 50 minutes.

So which is worse, being in bumper to bumper traffic filled aggressive a-holes or driving on the highway at 75 with a cup of coffee & the stereo cranking?   :coolgleamA:

Is exit 6 off of I 285 or off of I 85??? I took a friend of mine to Roswell to pick up his charger a couple of years back. He has a general replica and he had Larry West to paint the flag on his like he did for the early chargers in the show. Mr. West still has a shop in Roswell where he paint's sign's and stuff. He did a great job on my buddy's car!!!!

I sold my "nice house" 3 years ago.  Address was in White Ga (Amberleigh crossing subdivision.)  Highway 20 @ 108, between Canton and Cartersville.  I'm quite sure I've ridden a Harley past your place MANY times (rode all over through there lots.)

Yeah, White is about 2 exit's from the adairsville exit. My buddy had a black 68 charger and he live's in Rydal which is very close to White. I actually live in Plainville which if you have lived up this way i'm sure you know where that hole in the wall is too!!!
