Horn relay hook up

Need help getting my horn to work. I have a '69 and I'm running a Denso one wire internally regulated alternator setup with ammeter bypass.  I taped off the stock alternator wires on the engine harness seeing they aren't being used. The purple and black wires ( large ring terminal) that would've attached to the stock alternator, appears to have fed power to the horn relay. Seeing that these wires aren't being used for my Denso application, how can I get the relay and horns to operate. The relay and horns are hooked up via the stock engine harness connections.

IIRC the purple wire that is tied into the original alternator lug goes straight to the horn relay by the horns. Can you just separate it from the original lug and reattach it to the alternator stud?

Yep that should work.  You could also tap power from the battery but the alt is right there!  Not a bad idea to add a 20 amp inline fuse while you're at it either.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

That 20 amp fuse is a very good idea

It should be, it's yours!

You advised me to do just this to my own car so I'm just passing on the knowledge.   :2thumbs:

Hey Pete guess what?  Remember my a/c issues after I charged it myself last year?  Turned out it was the thermostatic switch.  All I had to do was adjust it and now it blows colder than either of our modern Honda's!

Hi Dino,

Good to hear from you, I know school has been keeping you super busy.

Really great to hear the A/C is working well. I wondered how that had turned out but, I knew you were really busy and the colder weather was setting in last fall. It sounds like you're all set for this summer! You know now that charging an A/C system really isn't difficult and if done properly it works!

I don't get what's the problem with this... Stock alt wire will work the same on one wires than the stock system. Just wire it the same but the field wires.
