Hey guys,
I just installed new bushings in my LCAs. How tight is the pin supposed to be? I thought if I cleaned them up real well with emory cloth they would go in fairly easily. It looks like they will be so tight they'll have to be pressed back in. Is this correct?
My shop manual doesn't say anything about how to get them back in.

I always pressed the bushing onto the shaft first and then pressed the assembly into the LCA.  I believe the answer to your question is yes the shaft needs to be pressed in.
Not sure if their is a right way or wrong way but just a matter of having tooling for proper support while pressing. :Twocents:

Do I have to remove the bushings or can I press the pins in them while it's installed?

I'm going to say it would be a good idea to press the bushing out of the LCA and put it on the shaft first.

My thinking is that if you just pressed the shaft in the bushing already installed you still need to back up the steel sleeve in the bushing through the hole on the other side. That would require just the right size piece of shaft material. If the sleeve is not backed up the force would go to the rubber and the sleeve would not seat fully.

My thinking on this is fuzzy from time passing :P

Sounds like I need to order a new set of bushings then . I know I'll tear these up when I remove them. I  had no idea they had to be pressed on.
Thanks

I forgot how tough it is to remove the bushings. :shruggy:  If you still have one of the old steel sleeves it would work as a back up for pressing in your shafts. I just checked an old one I have and it's about .94" dia. and will fit in the hole.
