I think I need to have patience, Ive only been looking for 2wks, but you know how it is when you have the itch

Patience.

I've been working on mine, off and on...

For 20  years.

Bronzedodge

Missing it's A/C compressor, refrig lines, maybe the evaporator?  Don't see the evap stubs on the firewall.  That stuff can be hard too find or fabricate.

If you've only been looking for 2 weeks, then yes, have patience. :icon_smile_wink:

I have been following that auction as well!So 25k would be to do the bodywork,15k paint, interior 6-7k,suspension,steering,wiring let's say 3-4k plus the little things 2k!
So to get a car restored by a shop it would take almost 50-55k???That is crazy! :brickwall: Why would anyone do that not to just buy one restored already?
Or am i missing something?

I can do some mechanical, wireing, but not body,,,,maybe I should look at something a little more ,,,unrusted, I cant believe that theres hardly ant 69s for sale
Make sure you know what you are getting into before you start. With that car, you are looking at least 50k Canadian to buy it, and restore it properly..
I've seen too many guys lose their ass on a car like that, make sure you make an educated buy before you put down the cash. you'll enjoy it more in the end  :yesnod:

Yeah man.  Even when these cars filled the Auto Trader at 4 figure prices you still had to look for the right one...

Fast, good, cheap.

You can always have any two of the three.

That car needs quarters, rear valence + end caps and probably new trunk floor.

My roof looked the same and was to flimsy / pitted to save so in the worst case it'll need a new roof also, add some floor pans and you'll be looking at some extensive body work.
Needs to be done on a rotisserie to make the job easier.

On the otherhand if you have patience you can spread the restoration cost over a few years and end up with a very desirable #'s matching RT/SE.
You wont make money out of it if you need to outsource all the body work. You maybe even wont make money out of it if you do it yourself, but hey is that why we are in the hobby?

I myself could not afford a car completely or partially restored. and I'm not ashamed to admit that. Will I ever recoup the total cost of my restoration? not a chance, but in the end I end up with something that still is worth a nice dime If I would be forced to sell and on the otherhand I get a nice car in return for my hard work that I can enjoy while its mine.

So, if you can handle the task why not go for it, but dont expect to be driving next summer. If you have the funds to complete such a task in 12 moths, you can better buy one done.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I guess it all depends on why you have to have a 69 R/T
How many Dodge Chargers have you ever gone to look at ?
How old are you ?
Are you in your 20-30s or in the 50 plus range (time is running out to get a big project done and still have time to enjoy it)
Have you ever fixed up a car before ?

If this is your first project and you are younger pick up any 68 69 70 Charger you can afford with a good frame and start working on it
You do not have to keep for ever it if it is not the dream machine you are looking for but you will learn with hands on experience and know what a better one looks like at a good price when it comes along

I live in Port Hope and my daughter lives in Whitby so you are not too far away  ;)
I can show you what to look for between good bad and ugly if you are ever out this way

Is it your goal to restore a Charger, or do you just want to be the proud owner of one? This one is a huge time and money pit - right for the right person, but not for all. It needs floors, trunk, quarters, valance, roof & other patches, the entire interior is shot, and certainly 100% of the mechanicals need to be gone through. For what it costs to restore one (unless you are doing the work yourself), it actually makes the most sense time and dollar-wise to save your money and buy a completed or more rust free car.

Thanks Mike I apprieciate that. I think Im looking for a car that runs half decent and if the interior has some rips thats OK. Body to have some surface rust OK, maybe needs new tires, brakes, exhaust, rad so thats the storey. I think Im gonna have a hard time cause Im looking everywhere everyday, just waiting for a lead

Mike DC

You have your eye out for that, and so does everyone else in the Mopar hobby . . . for the last 20+ years . . .

:shruggy:    I know this old guy out in BC I bought my last car from him and he owns about 150 old cars its amazing all in 3 barns, bumper to bumper, I just emailed him to see if he has anything, so Ill wait for his reply

Dino

I've restored many cars in the past and have owned several old cars, including a few Chargers.  That R/T is going to be a massive money pit.  I suggest finding a car that is, or can quickly become, a dependable daily driver type car.  My car has a few issues as well but nothing major and I drive the tires off of it.  I seriously doubt I will ever do a full resto on it as I don't have to worry about the occasional scratch or ding.  Not that it ever happens outside of my garage but I digress...

I found my car locally by placing a wanted ad on Craigslist.  The seller had no intention of selling until he saw my ad so give that a shot.  Be clear on what you want; figure out what yoiu have to have in a Charger and where you can compromise.  I don't understand the whole R/T thing unless it is nostalgic.  I can't pay thousands more because it has a different VIN but if it matters to you then don't settle for less.

I spent many months looking until I found "the one".  Ironically the only cars I could find were rare option cars.  One was a one owner R/T 4 speed for less than $30K in very nice shape, but of course I'm the one guy that doesn't want that.

I found mine after many months of looking.  Don't settle for less, your car is out there.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

As said here, the key really is patience. Keep saving. Keep looking. Sooner or later the savings path and and looking path cross and a car you are happy with is in the garage.

Shit, I wasn't even looking, I ran across it randomly on Craigslist. When you got the itch you usually can't find anything...  :scratchchin:

blinkey

No not a mopar guy, his stuff is all mixed

Interesting.  Getting off topic on you a bit, but I always wonder about the back story with guys such as that.  You know, just the whole how did all of those cars come together that way.
