on my 68 roadrnner engine there's 3 wire connectors, one at the top, side and bottom.  I know the bottom is the ground but between the other two which is power and which is the exciter?

on my 69, it only has two wires.  The one for the stud and the green wire that goes to the field.

BECAREFULL...

on bottom stud you conect the black wire 10-12 gauge, eyelet terminal... THAT'S NOT GROUND, THATS THE MAIN POSITIVE WIRE COMING FROM BATT-STARTER RELAY STUD-AMM AND THEN ALTERNATOR... DRIVES POSITIVE

then on the two prongs can be either pluged any of the wires, green or blue if you already have an electronic regulator charging system what uses double field alt. In this case, green drives regulated ground and blue positive coming from ignition switch.

If you have a mechanical regulator and will use a double field alt ( two prongs ) you got, then you will plug the green wire you have, what IN THIS CASE doesn't drive regulated ground, drives regulated positive, and will need to ground the other prong. you can simply wire to ground the other prong or replace the isolation washer for a metallic one... either of both will be fine too.

When using a '70 and later alternator with two field spade terminals on a '69 or earlier car one of the field terminals is grounded (either one) and the other is hooked to the green wire leading to the regulator.

On the '69 and earlier alternator one field terminal is grounded but no spade connector is supplied so grounding one field on the later alternator duplicates the earlier.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
