Yall check this one out! Guy says its original 1968 charger panels that he is parting out!  Says he will not sell the car as a whole! Why would some idiot dumb ass part out a charger that has original sheet metal?  Makes me wonder if it is stolen!  :RantExplode: :flame: :brickwall:

Hey tan top will you post the pictures before the add is gone? Thanks pal!  :2thumbs:

Yes, I know I have too many cars. My wife reminds me daily.

stolen, no vin or title

My guess its a body that was "acquired", turned into a race car, but someone picked up onn the trail, sinces its a race car theres no vin, and he has no title so he cant sell it.. or doesnt want to  :scratchchin:

oh... wait.. or hes selling all the steel, and replacing them with fiberglass... he does ONLY list bolt on stuff  :smilielol:

"CAR IS NOT FOR SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE HAD OVER 20 PEOPLE ASKING
i have all original 1968 dodge charger body parts all have been stripped to bare metal and put into sealer no parts have any rust never have pic of the trunk is from before it was stripped all parts will need some prep work but for original metal are in great shape
trunk $550
doors $1000 for the pair with hinges do not include latches or rods
may negotiate some on price but no low ball offers"

No mention of parting it out all the way.

Roll cage in car & selling doors & trunk lid? He may have fiberglass panels for his race car, but just a guess.

myk

You'll always make more money parting a car out than selling it whole.  I've seen beautiful cars dismantled and cut up just so the owner could make more money selling off it's pieces.  In the end, it's all about money...

According to the ad, he is only offering the doors & trunkfloor.  The ad does not say "name your panel and we'll figure a price."

If he was literally hacking the car up then don't you think the quarters would be offered?

He's probably building a race car chassis.  The doors are gonna be fiberglass and the trunkfloor will be hacked out for the tub-job anyway.

Sell the metal first to help pay for the fiberglass?   :shruggy:

1974dodgecharger

I know the seller and met him a couple times....

he is building a drag car, but street legal with a blower setup......Its his FIRST MOPAR build up...he had a road runner that he got in a trade and sold it and realized, 'WOW' these mopars command lots of money'.  He has lots of experience with chevy/ford builds up built a 800HP chevy motor costs like 4 grand or something he said.

I told him how much my car costs to build up and he giglled at me and said, I have 15 grand im gonna build a show car 68 charger should take me 6 months'  This included a crate motor, body work, all pieces to the car.  Then I name off some pieces of the car that is gonna be killer and he said, 'YEAH RIGHT'...told him about the whole front grill....still didn't believe me.

paironines

Is that what $1000 doors look like?

skip68

I'm thinking the same.   He's just replacing the metal parts for lightweight stuff.  No biggie.

It should be interesting.  Will he share the build cost info when he is finished?  He could well pull it off, depends how much he has to farm out etc.

Let me give u an idea.....I told him my car was in body shop for 2.5 years for rear quarters,  floor pans and t4unk, misc.....he said he will finish all his bodywork for xx amount of dollars and be done at show quality,  he went to go pick up his after a week when body shop got to look at it and now is doing his own body work.

His plans have stalled due to money and now quit talking to me......was asking for advice on some parts for a while and now uas resorted to used parts now not new or oem as planned.....

The guy gets lucky in trades though he had a mustang worth 3k and guy trades him a 70 roadrunner worth 15k maybe but no title.....but built 440 and it was badass....drag car only..asks 20k for it and maybe he got it I dont know but it sold no title..that money he got is to fund a show quality charger.

What is the cost of a NEW AMD door? With all the dings in these originals, the new ones seem to be a better way to go, right?

When's the last time a new repro sheetmetal part was a better choice than a solid used one?

The new doors have problems right out of the box, just like everything else.

You might want to let him know that hood's not gonna stay like that.  He's got his work cut out trying to figure out a way to mount a bumper & lights .

But hey, he's got you giving advice...

no he wont take my advice after I told him how much It costs to restore a 2nd gen charger....like I said before he said with 15 grand he is gonna have a show quality car with crate hemi and be done with it in 6 months.

he is gonna make a prostreet car..is what they call it...

but hey like I said the man gets lucky in trades...who knows that's why he is selling the doors panels for 1k each, hood, floor panels, etc...has something up his sleeve.... ::)

What do I know........NOTHING hence why im here

Ghoste

Like I said, he may pull it off.  But he's going to need an awful lot of that luck, especially when it comes time to price that Crate Hemi. :D

hemi-hampton

Lets see what happens in 6 months? LEON. :scratchchin:

skip68

I don't know about you guys but I buy crate hemi's for $2k all day long.    :nana:
I'm guessing he's talking about the newer HEMI or older new HEMI like the 5.7L.  Not sure what they cost but I'm sure it's far cheaper than a 426.  :shruggy:
I agree with LEON, let's see what happens even though we already know what to expect.   In the meantime, more power to him.

Skip; how would you like to make a profit? You buy the crate hemis for 2k and I'll give you $2,500 the next day!!!!!! :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:

Sorry but the least I can retail a 426 crate HEMI for is $2,999.  For $3,489 I can step you up to a blown 426 1200 HP HEMI.   Most aren't willing to spend that kinda money so I'm stuck with about 30 of these things.
I think with your budget that a used HEMI is what you should consider.  Those are only $400-$500.   :icon_smile_wink:
