Well guys - i'm creeping up there in age and thinking of finally putting on the baby handcuffs and settling down with my girlfriend...         I've hinted at a ring here and there and her response was entertaining....    "I don't need a big ring....      why don't you build me a car instead?"

Dream come true for a car guy right???   Wrong....

Turns out she wants a 1967 Fastback stang....

So now i'm running around and doing research on fastback stangs and looking at engine choices...    something easy - was thinking of a late 90s MAF 5.0L engine and T5 trans....

just thinking out load.
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

Lol, sounds familiar, but mine wants a hellcat!

Go over the mustangs well, front rails under door rot, and behind ft fender rot. Hard spots to see on an assembled car. Get a roller 351w out of a lightning pickup.

Just 6T9 CHGR

LoL  Good luck with that....on all fronts!  ;)

Seriously though, congrats & good luck with the search!

Engine swaps are stiupid easy in a Mustang (for the most part). Heck, a T-5 fits without modification as well. I haven't kept up too much with dropping modern engines in one but 351W based strokers (400+ inches) are powerful, cheap(ish), very well documented, and easy to run with EFI. Plus they'll fit in a 67! Anything bigger and it becomes a maintenance nightmare.

I will have a 67-68 fastback some day. I've been saying that since I bought my first 70 Challenger in 1986 though and I still haven't managed to find one...

Don't forget the cowl drain rot on those cars.  Unfortunately, early Mustangs suffered from a design flaw that easily trapped water in the cowl drain area if leaves or dirt got past the gills in the sheet metal.  The parts to fix it is pretty inexpensive, just not the labor to do the job correctly (unless you do it yourself).  The nice thing is that you can literally order everything you need to repair one out of a catalog...

"Don't forget the cowl drain rot on those cars"
I have seen the same rot areas on Mopars too.
A friend of mine had to find a donor cowl for his 70 Boss 302.  He paid a lot of money getting that thing fixed.  :Twocents:

Advice from an old married guy - when she says she doesn't need a big ring . . . . . .

She means "I want a big ring!"

Please listen to what's she's saying.

The Mustang is very nice, but hear the other message.  FWIW  ::)

She wants both.  She wants it all.  They all do.  And they'll get it, too...

Stegs

get her a nice 67-69 dart....with a mild built 340..

Just tell her, you couldnt put your heart into a mustang....but your showing all your love by getting her a nice A-body to work on!

It's understandable.  Chicks love Mustangs.  I mean they've got a little pony on the front of them and all that...

Nice ring inside a scale model car that you build = problem solved ...  :popcrn:

The primary cause of divorce is marriage. :slap:

Since our culture tells us a marriage is forever getting out of one that fails is tougher than it should be.

Not all women want a big ring, mind didn't want one and still she doesn't have one!I think if a ring makes someone feels special then she is shallow!67 fastback mustangs are really cool cars,in fact my third favorite car.Not everyone is a mopar or no car person!By the way as soon as she gets pregnant she won't care about anything else just the baby!

Anyway, asking for a '67 fastback mustang is way better then asking for a prius or a smart car.IMO

Marriage is nothing but overpriced prostitution.  You will pay big time and tired of it real quick.
Ok Marriage joke time.

Because she's given her last BJ.
You just need to explain to her that getting a 67 fastback is like you getting a HEMI charger.   You had to settle for less and so should she.   Then say "  you should be used to it by now, after all, you settled for me"   :nana:
