Hey Folks,
It's been a while since I posted here, but I still have been reading time to time.
I recently moved from Columbus, Ms. to Jackson, Ms. and found another member here (CorndogsCharger)  that resides in the Jackson area and works at a place that is going to swap out my power steering gearbox.
I moved here due to a job as a tech at the Harley dealership. I'd been trying to get a job there for over a year and when an opening came about and I was asked to interview, I was kinda caught off guard and my only running car was my 68 Charger. For over 6 months now, I've had to put 40 miles plus a day on it 6 days a week. It has held up well considering it is almost as old as I am.
Last week, just as I hit the interstate, the ignition sys went totally off the wall,,spitting popping backfiring..etc,,as if it had jumped timing. I pulled over to the side and kept the engine running but it still was very erratic to say the least..first ignition trouble I ever had with this car in the 15 years I've driven it. I let it rest a few mins and damned if it didn't fire right up and ran perfect all the way to work and home and again the next day. I parked it since and ordered a whole new ignition system from Jeggs. In the mean time I was able to borrow a car from a close friend as shown in the attached pic.
I rebuilt the engine in 2000 and spent so much on engine components that not much money was left so I kept the already OLD electronic ignition ..(probably original from the '74 dodge truck the engine came from). It has served it's time and then some.
I'll keep it as a backup ;)
Anyway, I will soon meet Justin/CorndogsCharger who is apparently one hell of a body man(saw much work he did on a charger 500 in the aero cars forum) and will continue to visit and post time to time.

Anyone else here drive their Charger as their only transportation?

Take Care All,

Gary

myk

I drove my '69 daily through college and work for about 5 years.  They were the best of times, the worst of times.  After all of my interior, suspension and electrical 'mods I can't believe I drove this car close to stock without killing myself or anyone else on today's merciless, modern roads.  Still, I wouldn't give up those times for anything.

BTW, if you're ever looking into ignition systems look into the Firecore setup...

I wish I had that problem, at least I would be driving my Charger lol.

Hope you get everything worked out

I remember your 68, I love that car. I recall this pic you posted awhile back :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I've had lots of time in the seat where a Charger was my daily driver... but I have always had a handful of other old Mopars to fall back on. I drove 60's-70's cars every day up until about 2003 when I moved up to vehicle that was only 14 years old ('89 D250 RAM). I have never gone back to classic daily drivers. It's too much work!

You have to have a lot of perseverance to drive a classic daily, and way more so if one is your ONLY ride!

Right on man!   I try to drive my old junk as much as possible, but I always seem to have more than one car on the road at time, gotta have at least one truck for hauling stuff.  Newest vehicle I have registered at the moment is a 1988 ford f-150  :slap:

Yep Vegas,  that's Simon and if you look close, you'll see my cat in his harness on the porch in the first pic.
We are currently hosting the Trail of Honor tour for American veterans here at the Jackson Harley dealership and
I have to work through another weekend....hopefully, I'll get Simon's new ignition system  installed next weekend.

Vette,  I could say something similar until I bought my '89 Formula and it was my only NEW buy.,  the newest I owned then was a 72 Challenger. Nothing newer than 89 since.
